Very dark brown body with a rather small brownish head. The aroma reminds of cookies that begin to get burnt. In mouth, the texture is very thin, watery. Very refreshing malty character. More roasted cookies with coffee notes. Interesting and I'd most definitely like to have more from the style to compare. CaptainCougar (5529), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 22, 2004 Pours an opaque blackness with a thick, puffy, and well-lacing, light tan head. Aroma is mildly malty and burnt. Smooth flavorful body has lots of caramel and roasted malts and hints of dark chocolate. A good easy drinking schwarzbier, but just doesn't quite have the substance to be more highly rated. MartinT (5073), Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Dark brown, almost black beer with a thick and lasting dark brown head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate with a touch of acidity as well. Flavour is quite clean, light bready malts, roasted barley, chocolate and a touch of coffee. Light bitterness. Nice creamy texture. Nice beer. JPDIPSO (4932), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Sep 25, 2005 Bottled. Aroma starts with chocolat and black currant but stays mainly licorice. Very dark ruby color, light brown head, good lace. Light sweet, light bitter, light roasted, mainly licorice in the flavor as well. Bit smooth mouthfeel at start soons gets thin. Aroma makes you expect more complexity in the flavor but it’s not there. BückDich (4857), McCall, Idaho, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Jul 12, 2004 Dark black, sticky head & some lacing, all tan. The aroma is rich with roast and subtle hops, all there to balance. The flavor is creamy, light notes of mocha & fruity with some astringency. The hops are apparent in the finish but there’s a nice light carob taste that creams its way through. good!
