Alcohol not noticable, sweet malty roasted goodness. I thought the bourbon was a bit much, but I liked it. A bit thin in body, but I found the much lauded DFH WWS even thinner. ratman197 (3235), Arvada, Colorado, USA

Aromas of bourbon, dark chocolate, licorice, and vanilla. Body is a little thin for a stout. Big bourbon up front followed by vanilla, dark chocolate, and pepper. Pleasently bitter finish. railcat1 (582), Orlando, Florida, USA

Heavy, sweet and roasty aroma is dominated by bourbon oak. Thin body has some pleasant subtle sweetness and finishes semi-dry and oaky without much noticeable alcohol. A decent imperial, but would benefit from a thicker body and better balance. Drew (2409), Kent, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 1, 2005 I bought this bottle in late June, 2004 when I visited the brewery on our Colorado camping excursion. I figured it was rare enough that I should share with my local rating friends. I hate these wax topped bottles - I always manage to injure myself. Anyawy - poured pitch black, very little head, slinky clear lacing. Aroma was malty, smoke and bourbon. I thought the body was exceedingly smooth like silk, full flavored, but not real thick. Some sweet chocolate, but more roasty and surrounded with the bourbon, this was moderately hoppy too, especially at the end. Motor oil black body with a reddish colored bubbley head. Well balanced aromas of wood, whiskey, coffee, sweet carmel malts, and roast. Not overly full on the tounge, but very pleasant flavors of vanilla, wood, bourbon, roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate. Pretty well done barrel aged beer. I actually enjoyed this more than most other barrel aged jobs that are rated much higher. Crosling (1854), Loveland, Colorado, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Mar 6, 2005 Black. Aroma of Tennesse whiskey (charcoal, bourbon), charred fruit, deeply roasted malts, wood and chocolate. Simple, watery texture and fairly light in body as well, definately suffering from a lack of carbonation. Light malty taste (chocolate, roast), match well with the bourbon barrel contribution (vanilla, oak, bourbon). A simplistic example overall, but the aroma was surprisingly appealing to me. An enjoyable brew.
