agillespie81 (90), Denver, Colorado, USA Mar 30, 2008 Dark brown......opaque. Somewhat thin, yet very creamy head. Strong, very floral aroma. Sweet flavors of toffee and caramel up front......smooth mouthfeel, with a slight crispness. Extremely strong back with a slightly malty aftertaste.
Beaver (460), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Jan 14, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a murky dark tea color with a thin off white head that quickly goes to a thin film that leaves a little lacing.
The aroma is sweet molasses, cola and dark fruits with a little alcohol and green hops.
The flavor is sweet cola and caramel malts with dark fruits and a bitter hoppy alcohol finish. The mouthfeel is medium to a little thin and slightly watery (but not as bad as their other beers).
Overall, a very fine barley wine that is on the sweet side but well balanced. This is easily EP’s best brew.
BeerandBlues2 (2379), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Jul 5, 2005 Bottle. Pours a hazy mahagoney with a ruby tint and no head, with the exception being some slow rising bubbles congregating on top of the brew and at the glass edge. Complex malty and hoppy aroma with raisins, lots of caramel and toffee notes, and a pleasant sweet chocolate nose. Flavor is very hoppy starting out, followd by an intense dry hop finish, yet the caramel malts find their way in between the hops. Warm and full bodied palate that finishes progressingly spicy as the beer leaves your mouth. ratman197 (2174), Arvada, Colorado, USA Apr 21, 2005 Pours a hazy orange-brown color, with a small off-white head.It has a nose of raisins and molasses. Thick smooth palate. Flavor is sweet malt with toffee and raisins. Finishs with a bitterness I cant place. Crosling (1598), Loveland, Colorado, USA Apr 14, 2005 Bright orange haze, with a bubbly head that was very slow to initially develop. The nose is unusually tame for the style and is nearly non-existant until the swirling of the glass reveals underlying caramel malt and a touch of raisins and toffee. Flavor is lacking in body and texture, malt accented, bringing in notes of caramel and toffee, along with a finish that can mainly be described as alcoholic.
