Deep brown with a nice tan head that quickly settles to a film. Nose is rich and roasty, lots of bittersweet chocolate, coffee, caramel, oats and even a tiny hint of licorice. Taste is sweet and oaty but well roasted malt, cocoa, coffee grounds, vanilla and caramel with slight anise and bitter gingery hop in the finish. Reminds me a lot of many UK stouts Ive had at festivals, lovely, dry and roasty but just short of the mark on the palate for awesomeness imo. No hard feelings I hope Samson... douglas88 (1597), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA

A nice aroma of burnt milk chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt, something sweet, maybe prunes also. The taste is pretty nice, sweet and light fruit, lots of sourish roasted flavors, meaty and smoked, some coffee and chocolates. Very nice. A bit thin, but overall, good.

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Sep 1, 2008 Ooh Samson. Perhaps he shook up all of the Estes Park bottles with is horns before they were shipped and that’s why most of my bottles have been mega gushers. This one he must have been kinder to since his picture is on there. Brown with a medium tan head that stick around for awhile. Aroma of sweet malt, molasses, a touch too sweet for my liking. Body id over carbonated so I guess he did shake it up a little and it’s sticky and astringent to boot. Sweet malt, caramel and molasses round out the flavors. agillespie81 (198), Denver, Colorado, USA

Sweet malt taste in the front......smooth mouthfeel, with a subtle crispness. Heavy roasted malt back. Ughsmash (4022), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 16, 2008 Bottled. Poured thick, very deep brown with pretty much nothing going on for head. The aroma picked up heavy doses of moderately-roasted semi-sweet chocolate and barley with a bit of tar and molasses.. a hint of coffee coming around the sides. The flavor had sweeter chocolates with light lactic sourness at the core.. coffee bitterness, dark fruits, and milk found the edges.. warm, fruity and chocolatey finish. The oats provided some smoothness on the palate, but it wasn’t too well executed.. the flow of this was just off.. medium body to it. Beaver (598), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 1/5 | 14/20 | Jan 10, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark black with no head at all.
The aroma is roasted chocolate malts and coffee and a little sweet lactose.
The flavor is watery chocolate and coffee and a touch of smoke with a burnt finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied but extremely watery with no carbonation.
Overall, there are good components to this beer - it’s very black, I like the chocolate and coffee in the taste and the smell, but the wateriness and lack of carbonation brings it down a ton. This beer shouldn’t be ad either - I got it straight from the brewery less than a month ago. ChainGangGuy (2562), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 9, 2007 Appearance: Pours a black body with a thin, light tan-colored head.
Smell: Rich roasted malt aroma with a plenty of dark chocolate and, to a lesser extent, coffee.
Taste: Roasted malts and more dark chocolate and coffee, all with a solid level of sweetness. Finishes roasty and sweet.
Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Mild carbonation.
Drinkability: Not nearly as interesting as a necklace of human teeth, but it’s not half bad. Not half bad at all! RSRIZZO (1366), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 2, 2007 Aroma is a deep roasted scent with back tones of chocolate. Color is a solid black that lets no light though. Carbonation is low with a very thin but tight brown head. Taste is rich and toasted. Starting with a full body it goes down smooth with a faint sharp feel coming in at the end. Finish comes on with creamy roasted flavor that is almost a burnt taste, then it sharpens up a bit with a very mild bitterness and ends with a dry feel and a toasted after taste. Its a good mellow stout.
