Oilly texture with a smokey/woody flavor. Clean finish with a slightly bitter aftertaste. A fairly complex-tasting beer. It’s different, but in a good way. balke13 (156), MIssoula, Montana, USA

Roasted malts and dark chocolate fill the aroma. Good malty sweetness and balance in the body. Finishes pleasantly roasty. A really nice sweet stout. heykevin (1269), Iowa City, Iowa, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 16, 2003 Light hoppy aroma, a touch of roast. Moderate bodied, thick oaty mouthfeel. Touch of wineyness in the back, bits of chocolate. Not a lot of roast character, but still miles better than any of the other Estes Park products I've sampled in the past. Hints of burnt malt. Could be a bit more full bodied but otherwise very good. urbnhautebourg (974), Annapolis, Maryland, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | May 25, 2003 Dark grain aroma with somem licorice and, yes, other things. Very nice balanced flavor with only moderate sweetness underpinned by roast grains. A poor man's Bells. Suttree (2743), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Can smell burnt toast and bacon. Smoky, dry flavors, and incredibly full bodied. Maybe some charcoal, too. For a beer this heavy, it finishes with some finesse. The head stay mostly intact till the last drop.
