Commercial Description:
As a true ice cidre "Cidre de Givre" expresses with intensity the flavors of the apples from Domaine Etienne Dupont. It is derived from E. Dupont Cidre Bouche Brut 2005 by freezing it and then removing the frozen water.

2006 vintage. Rich orangey to brownish color, no head, no lacing (duh!). The aroma was full apples, cidery, with a little bit of a spicey wood type touch to it. The flavor followed the aroma, along with some caramel-like notes. The downfall of the flavor was too much sweetness, which didn’t get mellowed by this cider’s other qualities. Alcohol didn’t play a strong role in the flavor. A nice little treat, but certainly not worth the dollars, nor does it come close to the Face Cachee ice cider that boboski so generously shared with me back in March.

Thanks to joebrew for sharing. Excellent apple nose with a distinctly iced characteristic to it. Cloudy cider brown body with no head. Slightly sweet with the alcohol properly hidden, leaving only an excellent cider taste.

A tall 375 ml bottle recommended by joebrew after his tour in the Middle East. Pours a deep amber color with no head nor any lacing. Wow! Awesome apple cider sweet to the nose with brown sugar, caramel, and cinnamon. Taste is very sweet apple crisp, cinnamon and more sweet apples. Outstanding!

08-May-07 375ml bottle, 2005 Rusty amber color, still. Aroma is bold and apple filled, suggesting tartness, background caramel. Flavor follows suit, but even sweeter than expected. This is far from the refined drink of the North American ice cidres I’ve tried; perhaps obviously reduced by freezing. Tartness emerges with temp and on finish. Fair enough, but once was fine.

375mL bottle, Vintage 2005. Clear light copper amber with some legs appearing after a good rousing. Smells very much like apple juice, spiced apples, and some light dry white wine-like characteristics--though overall very sweet. Flavor was very much the same--lots of sweetness that tricks you into thinking this is fuller bodied than it is, as this is very light bodied. Didn’t really notice much white wine in the flavor. Kinda like drinking concentrated apple juice (light spice and a tinge of ETOH) without the heaviness. The Neige cider was $20 too, and it was much better. No reason why this should cost that much for as good as it was--which was pretty good, just not $20 good.

Pours out a cloudy dark brown color. Aroma was that of apples. Flavor was very sweet. Like spiked apple juice. Not to bad, but something i wouldnt care to have again.

Bottle sampled at the Carolina tasting, thanks Todd. Pours out a dark brown color without much of a head. Smell is full of apples and thats really about it. Taste is sweet and like drinking a bottle of apple juice. Interesting, but not really my thing. Thanks for the sample.
