Bottle. Pours a beautiful red mahogany with a medium foamy off white head. Aroma is sweet with a musky roasted feel and some dark chocolate. Extremely full mouthfeel, foamy, oily. Flavour has lots of roasted tones, with raisins, plums, some coffee and a general sweetness. Ends on a pleasant vinious note.

Plums and some malt in the aroma. Almost black with a quickly receeding head. Full and creamy palate. The taste is chewy, malty, with hints of tobacco and very light hops.

16.9oz, no date. Mine says 9% ABV. Pours a clear dark ruby brown with a one finger fading beige head. Aroma of raisins, toasted malts, toffee, brown sugar, and way in the background some slight anise and spearmint. Flavor is slightly oxidized with some alcohol in addition to the aforementioned flavors. This wasn’t quite as sweet as the aroma led on and there’s a pretty good amount of toast and molasses in the flavor. Bitterness is low--3 on a 1-10 scale. Considering the strength of this, the alcohol is fairly well masked. Low-moderate carbonation with a medium body. I thought this one was pretty good.

I still think this is 7% not 9%. At any rate, sometimes on a cold evening you just need a nice chewy German doppelbock and this is one of my favorite examples of the style. The body is rich mahogany, with a warming malty presence. But there’s just so much subtlety at work here too - herbal tang, breads, caramel, even a slightly pepper spice. This is really the kind of thing you’ll hate unless you’re in absolutely the right mood. But on its own merits it’s soooo strong.

Pours clear and beautiful red-black with about two fingers of loose off-white head. Aroma is super-sweet...all molasses and raisins. Thick in the mouth with a little toffee and coffee (toffee/coffee?!?...Hey, I calls ’em like I sees ’em...). Something seems a bit off with the flavor, kind of a fishy thing going in the middle here...may need to try a different bottle...’till then I’m forced to hum it..."Flavor" and "overall" are tanking due to this off flavor...I’ll try another and re-rate...
