The nose is filled with complex notes of figs, fruitcake, port, licorice, cherry, raisin chocolate, black toffee, coffee and caramel, while it tastes deliciously thick and chewy, with great complexity showing notes of fruits, coffee-roastiness, molasses, licorice, and toffee. This beer is a meal!

Beautiful brown in colour, light beige coloured head, good lacing. The aroma is roasty, light smoke, lots of malt, mild sweetness, caramel, chocolate. The flavour is mildly sweet, lots of dark malts, fruit sweetness, some cherries, black forest cake and some alcohol. Creamy mouthfeel, medium/large body, moderate carbonation. Finishes lingering, sweet, malty and warm.

Excellent mouthfeel, this might be the perfect winter beer, quite rich but very hardy.

500ml bottle from the Premier Gourmet in Buffalo, New York.
Opened on January 27, 2008.
No date.

(GERMAN) Nice dark brown color with a sm-tan head. Aroma is of dark chocolate, liqorice, and raisins. The taste is yummy, with dry fruits, molasses, and coffee notes. The finish is dry and the 9% is well hidden in this doppelbock. Well balanced, and worth a taste !!!

Bottle: Pours a dark brown color with light head. The nose is very sweet and fruity with a ton of maple and malt notes. The flavor is wet and juicy; grapes, fig, molasses, coffee. Bright alcohol and lots of nutty cherry notes in the flavor. Huge body and a creamy mouthfeel. Not for the faint of palates.

Bottle at Au Trappiste, Paris. Pours brown with a stable yellowish head. Mostly caramel aroma. Tastes of nutty caramel with good bitterness to offset the sweet malts. Full-bodied. Quite nice.

This beer has a good aroma and a quite average appearance. It is a full-bodied and smoky tasting beer with dark fruit flavoring. Very good.

Bottle; pours dark brown, but held up to light shows a coppery/ruby-ish core; sweet malty aromas with coffee, dried fruits, and yeasty baked goods on the nose and palate; great beer at a great price

J Betski’s Raleigh, NC Bottle 5/16/08. Poured a lacy lower head underneath a tight creamy beige top. Deep brown with subtle copper hues around the edges. The head quickly diminishes into thin and creamy, barely covering the surface. Aroma of dark fruit pie, figs, molasses, dates and spice. Excellent first sip, difficult to pinpoint one main characteristic. Sweet, sour, earthy, rich, fruity, yeasty. Try this one but let it warm up for the full effect.
