| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Apr 29, 2006 Dark brown with a weak, quickly dissipating beige head, the Ettaler dunkel smelled and tasted suspiciously like a dunkelweizen. Since they make a dunkelweizen, I’m wondering if I got a switched label. Either way, its a decent beer, but a bit too tart and, well...wheaty...for a straight dunkel. A bit of cola flavor appears in the aftertaste. Oycpff (93), USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 27, 2006 On tap at richos - poured a nice deep brown with medium head. Very light aroma of smoke and roasted malt. Slightly fruity with nice malt accent tastes Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 25, 2006 Clear, caramel-y appearance, lush head above, dotted with brownish flecks, lace-leaving, but reigns in with a quickness...
Wide open aroma, ripe with nuts, cocoa, cream, and mild vanilla...nice.
Taste: Boards the palate boldly, but doesn’t intimidate, leaves lightly...jettisoning a slightly roasty, nutty flavor...fullish, but dry, in the end. Full bodied, long, nutty finish, but, overall, dry. Cleans right out.
Rich and tasty, this, smooth yet fully flavored. Not bad at all. Can be consumed with ease, while delivering a certain dollop of deliciousness. And that’s a good thing.
Since 1330, eh? Wow! I will try the rest of this brewery’s offerings, and hope that they all measure up as well. oldrtybastrd (1823), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Apr 23, 2006 Pours a deep dark brown. Aromas of roasted malts, smoke, and hints of fruit. Flavors of the roasted malts, some fruit, with a coffee aftertaste. dolemike1 (1129), Jeannette, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 23, 2006 Medium reddish brown with a moderate tan head, malty aroma, flavor is malty, caramel, toast, raisin. Slightly watery. Not bad. BitchesBrew (710), Berkeley, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 9, 2006 [bottle] Pours a clear brown color. Short, bubbly head. Aroma is nice- kind of sweet, very malty. Flavors are typical of the style, bready, and kind of sweet. This seems to be lacking complexity. Before long, it turns into a sweet, kind of boring brew. Not bad, but certainly not my favorite dunkel. MoreHead (355), Minnetonka, Minnesota, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 9, 2006 poured a clear brown with average head and lacing. aroma of carmel and nuts. taste was malt, yeast, some cakey sweetness. slightly thin but very enjoyable. frankenkitty (1903), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 28, 2006 Poured cola-colored with a frothy, tan head. Rich malts in aroma with dryish-caramel, raisin and light nuttiness with fruity/herbal hops beneath... nothing to dislike. Flavor, however, is a bit of a letdown, lacking the richness I desired but instead holding moderate herbal bitterness above non-descript, flattish malts, ending with a touch of metal atop the bitters. Caramel emreges and intensifies as it warms, giving this beer a new lease on life.
