Bottle. Poured brown. Both taste and aroma were strongly raisin, maybe a little coffee. Tasted thin, but an enjoyable drink overall.

Pour is a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is toffee and dark fruit looks and smells good so far. Flavor is again a nice helping of dark fruit, molasses and a earthyness that lastes after the swallow. A very tasty dunkel and i wish more were like this one.

Pours a nice dark red/brown. Nice sweet malt on the nose with hints of caramel, and an earthy bready character. Nice balanced sweetness on the palate with hints of a slight hoppy nature, and caramel, roasted malt, and a bready malt sweetness. Good but not great.

The aroma is really nice but weak. It has caramel malt, toffee, and chocolate. The appearance is red brown with a small head. The flavor is like the aroma with some bitterness. The palate is thin with a toasted malt and paper aftertaste. This is an interesting beer that lacks that special something.

NorCal tasting Jan 07 - This was really underwhelming in every sense of the word. Aroma of dirty caramel, perhaps some oxidation. The color of this beer looked like rusty water out of a barrel. Mouthfeel was a bit thin. Flavors were wet paper, sweet malt and little else. To be honest, it wasn’t as bad as it sounds. It was drinkable. I suppose there’s a time and place for this beer.

The 16.7 ounce bottle poured a clear, dark reddish brown beverage with a small off-white fizzy head that was mostly diminishing but left good lacing on the glass. The aroma was complex and malty with dark rye bread mixing with notes of nuts caramel and a hint of aged leather. The body was medium with soft carbonation and a watery texture. The flavor started out lightly sweet. The sweetness is gradually replaced with a soft nutty bitterness that lasts through the fairly long finish. There is a nice warmth at the end as well.

Clear chestnut brown color, topped by a couple inches of soft foamy light tan suds. Decent head retention and spotty lacing. Smooth sweet and creamy malt aroma. Well rounded blend of sweet and drier malt flavors - caramel, chocolate, toasted grain, and an earthy rye-like taste. Lightly spicy and floral hop bitterness through out, a little more prominent in the finish. Great balance. Medium body, very smooth and creamy mouthfeel.
