Pours a dark opaque brown, with very little light shining through. There’s a two inger off-white head that settle very slowly to a solid cap, that leaves behind a nice shetting of lace. Smell; lots of raosted malts, with toffee and caramel. There was a little bit of chocolate and some hints of rasins, and nuts. Taste; very malty, with caramel, chocolate and bread dough. The raisins and nutty flavors came through, but were not very strong. There was almost no bitterness to speak of, and the finish was on the sweet side. While this wasn’t the most complex beer out there, it was a very enjoyable drink. Mouthfeel was medium bodied, and very drinkable.

Brown body with ruby-red highlights and about a half an inch of of-fwhite head. Smells like malt, caramel, and brown sugar mostly. Tastes sweet and malty, roasty, like brown sugar and molasses. Medium in body. Rather drinkable. A really tasty decent little beer.

Pours dark mahogany with a thin wispy, mostly tan head. Aroma of very sweet caramel, dark bready, chewy malt. Taste is chewy, bready, malty, chocolate, and toffee. Mouthfeel medium to full bodied and slightly sticky with lush carbonation. Very nice, an excellent dunkel!

Bottle... Clear mahogany lager with a large, frothy, off-white head. Terrific retention. Aroma of caramel and golden raisins with maybe a hint of smoke. Caramel-maple sweet flavor. Hopped just enough to prevent cloying. Full-bodied and silky with soft carbonation. Finishes lengthy, malty sweet, then lightly bitter.

Bottle sampled with Beerded_one. Pours brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of molasses, toasted malts, and slight fruit. The flavor is toasted caramel malts, molasses, and fruit. Good body, good brew.

Tap at Spuyten Duyvil. Dark brown with ruby highlights and no head to speak of. Just dark toasted malts and a hint of molasses. Brown sugar, slightly rummy/plummy. Lovely sweet toasty flavour. Very clean with just the requisite spicy hops backing it up. Dry finish despite all the promised maltiness. Lightly dusty finish.

I just typed in a nice long, descriptive rating for this beer and then when I submitted it, it got erased when the web page told me to log in. Some may say that it is my fault because I didn’t log in, but I rarely have to with my cookies turned on. Someone should fix this glitch in the ratebeer website. I like this beer. It’s like their helles plus some dark malt that adds spicy melanoidins, toastiness, and some raisiny oxidationlike character.

Bottle courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a clear amber-brown with an average size diminishing fizzy tan head. Aroma is malty and fruity with a hint of smoke, spices and brown sugar -- pretty nice. Flavour of sweet caramel malt, slightly roasty with brown sugar and a hint of chocolate. Light bodied. Pretty good, this was a nice surprise.
