I really want to like it but it just doesnt stand out in any way. slightly crisp and malty flavor. meh. Bierkrug (300), Idar-Oberstein (in Pakistan), Germany

Does not match well against the other Ettalers but as a Helles it is a top beer. Most people dont understand Helles so that I have to take in account but still a great example of a true Bavarian Helles. durhambeer (1222), Durham, USA

| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Jan 21, 2009 Updated: Jan 22, 2009The aroma is awful. It smells like corn, cocktail sauce, hay, and malt. The appearance is golden with a small head. The flavor is actually not as bad as the aroma. It does have corn but paper and hops are all you taste. The palate is really thin but the carbonation saves it from being watery. Overall this is a beer that borders on gross with the aroma but is OK to drink if you hold your nose.
