CaptainCougar (4624), Rockville, Maryland, USA Aug 18, 2008 Bottle: Pours a transparent deep copper amber with a well-lacing large, pillowy off-white head. Nice aroma of fresh resiny grapefruity hops and some mild pale malts. Body starts with decent fullness and lightly sweet toasty caramel malts with good bittering and flavor hop balance throughout. Finishes crisp and bittersweet, a nice IPA. sloth (1511), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA Aug 17, 2008 Large tan head, good retention and plenty of nice lace. Hazy, copper amber colored brew. Gentle hop nose, light pine and citrus, pencil shavings and some mild malt notes. Body is medium, lightly chewy and resiny. Medium sweet malts, lightly toasty, grainy with a grassy hoppiness, light pine, lightly woody, earthy and fruity. Fairly dry finish with a medium sized hop bite that hangs on. Nother nice brew from these folks at Eugene city. EithCubes (1797), Indiana, USA Aug 15, 2008 Updated: Aug 17, 2008My 75th IPA rating. Bomber (and not exactly a high fill line!). Big hoppy nose, floral and fruity, predominately lychee and pine with resin and chewy bread underneath. Not to forget the caramel malt. Just a touch of funk. Big, dense, rocky, creamy , lacing beige head (beautiful!) atop a cloudy ruby head. Taste is strongly bitter, but not overpoweringly so, somewhere between sweet and dry with powerful dry hopping. All hope of fruity accents departs, the caramel-and-pine hammer falls. Love the hoppiness, though. Medium body, dark caramel aftertaste, dry and hoppy and long-lasting. Brightly citric and well-balanced for an "extreme" beer. A lot of hops varieties here, but they muddle together. Not one of the legendary IPAs, but worth a go. illkarate (41), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Aug 12, 2008 Nice effort from Rogue - pours a nice reddish amber color with a big head. Amazing lacing. Fairly hoppy (pine and citrus) but the bitterness is cut with the malt and a bit of sweetness (caramel). Good beer. timfoolery (333), California, USA Aug 7, 2008 Bottle from PC Market of Choice in Ashland, OR. This one reminded me more of a really good Pale than an IPA. Usually, I’d expect fresh hop taste, but this was more roasty in the hops. The malt balanced the brew to a point, but the hops still overpowered. Eh.
