DarkElf (2453), La Jolla, California, USA Sep 1, 2005 (Draft: Issaquah Brewhouse in Issaquah, WA) A solid saison, at least in terms of the American brewed saisons I’ve sampled, and it’s reminiscent of Pizza Port’s SPF 45. It’s spicy and sweet, yet mildly tart toward the finish, so the sweetness doesn’t become overbearing. Light-to-medium bodied, sweet and a bit sticky on the palate, but with the tartness, it’s far from being cloying. Sweet, spicy and musty nose, with a hint of coconut in the background. Hazy golden color, with a small white ring of head. Very little lacing. I still haven’t developed a true appreciation of this style, but it’s an interesting style, and this beer is decent and not harsh in any way. 11026 (1886), USA Aug 27, 2005 Tap. Golden amber colored, clear. Small white head that fades rather quickly to nothingness and leaves no lacing. Fruity and floral aroma, very nice although a touch too sweet smelling. Medium bodied. Sweetness in aroma carries over to flavor. It is not unbearable, just odd. Lots of floral and herbal notes in flavor. A good beer but a little off style. BeerLimey (1875), California, USA Aug 22, 2005 Clear orangey amber hue. Sugarry, fruity, coriander and bubblegum aroma. Sugarry candy cane flavor, mild coriander spiciness, fairly mild alcohol warming finish. jackamackson (127), USA Aug 6, 2005 my first saison. amber color, small white frothy head. fruity, sort of sour aroma. flavor was somewhat spicy, sour, and light. makes me want to try more in this style. beerguy101 (3419), Newark, California, USA Aug 5, 2005 On tap at Brewpub. Light orange color. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is fruity, touch of must and leather, kind of sweet. A medium bodied saison. Malts are fruity and sweet, grapes, spices and a touch of funkiness. Light and refreshing. Nice balance. Crisp and clean. Somewhat sweet, but not to bad. Aftertaste is fruity and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
