Commercial Description:
Cask: Regular.
Ingredients: 100% pale malt. Challenger, Goldings and Fuggles whole hops.
"The Original Golden Ale". "Nectar of the Gods".
Exmoor Gold is the original "single malt" traditional ale - pale gold in colour with a malty aroma and flavour. A light sweetness is complemented by its long hoppiness resulting in a remarkable well-rounded beer.

A post-climb pint, drunk when I was knackered, aching and gasping for a beer - so it was always going to taste good! Served at room temperature in a very warm pub - the correct (ie cellar/ twelve degrees) temperature would have been nicer. Deep gold colour (fairly pale for a bitter) with a slight but lasting creamy white head. In the mouth the beer feels strangely thick, almost greasy, and yet despite this is startlingly easy to drink - I finished it almost before I knew what I was doing. It’s a little eggy at first, before clearing to reveal some malt, a hint of citrus and just enough bitterness to make it both refreshing and thirst quenching. It’s more like a golden ale than a bitter however, the flavours are fairly weak. In terms of actual flavour, this beer is rather insipid and unmemorable however, it’s so drinkable and refreshing that it would make a great summer session beer I could happily knock back a few of these on a hot day (although preferably served at a slightly cooler temperature!)

Cask@GBBF2008. Golden colour with particles floating around. Aroma is fruity hops and mild grass with some minor eggy notes. Flavour is the same, but with mild spices and sweetness.

Clear golden with tiny white head. Malty aroma with caramel and flowers. Sweet flavor with toasted malt, caramel and floral hops. Ends mild bitter.

Handpulled at JDW Hatch End, Harrow. Fine looking pint, living up to its name. Cleared slowly to a thick white head with nice lacing. Rather sweet at first but a reasonable hop bitterness slowly developed towards the end of the pint. Nice beer, though I tried Butcombe Gold earlier in the day, which was much better.

Cask, Long Itchington ’08. Fresh-on, nitro-smooth, almondy, lingeringly cornflakey, milky and clinging in the mouth. What happened to the hops? Worst beer of the festival by a mile.
