Pours a light murky and lime tinged nectar with a copper tone undermining the lime. Pungent cheese and basement musk aroma. Funky cheese a subtle acidic vinegar tone, some funky mildew and a lemony sourness. Very happy to have had the opportunity to try this. j12601 (1258), Poughkeepsie, New York, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 12, 2009 Bottle at WSF. 1988 vintage. Pours hazy golden coloured with a thin white head. Oxidized aroma with notes of marzipan, rotten wood, berries, earth, forest floor and some spices that tickles the nose. Dry and tart flavour with mouldy notes of mature beer, tannins, balsamic vinegar and spice - almost hot.. Amazing brew, even after 21 years in a cellar. Oakes (8092), gone rambling, Vietnam
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jun 21, 2009 1988 bottle made by Eylenbosch, not de Keersmaeker. Murky. Head fizzed up but promptly disappeared. Light tannic, leathery character with a hint of tartness. Some peach notes, plus pear. Tannic, but quite rounded and refined at this point. Fresh acidity and a long finish with a hint of sweetness. Light nutty character with lots of lemon at the end. Crazy - what a blast to drink this 21-year-old original.
Eylenbosch Faro, 1988 bottle. Hazy light amber. The aroma is sugary with some caramelly notes. Maybe a bit smoked - these phenols are coming from yeast degradation though. A hint of tartness late, and some apple skins, but this is clearly too old. 4-2-5-2-10. CaptainCougar (5454), Rockville, Maryland, USA

Aroma of complex toasty caramel and mild tartness with a touch of peaty scotch character. Body starts with faint carbonation and nice light malty sweetness with toffee notes and good crisp tart balance with a touch of oak. Has some acidic warmth in the finish, but has aged extremely well. Wood, apple, pear, totally unique aromas. A bit of bandaid though. I think it is showing some age, but is a sturdy beer. Nice palatable, drinkable palate. Bright, fun, very herbal. Fresh, like drinking a garden. Lovely and crisp. Even found some kumquat character here. Dedollewaitor (3669), Odense, Denmark

Pours cloudy orange with a small creamy white head. Tart, mouldy, woody, grapes and cellar. Very complex and still world class. Kind of mellow and smooth carbonation and mouthfeel. Vague vinegar tickles the cheek. Ends tart and dry. 21 years of age and still wonderful.
