omhper (10456), Stockholm, Sweden Jan 14, 2002 This beer is somewhere in the borderline between a dunkel and a Baltic porter.
The 1996 vintage is dark brown, medium carbonation, almost no head, light bitterness and raisin aroma.
In the 1994 version you’ll find less carbonation and more oak character than the 1996 version.
In the 1992 version, which is still holding up very well,
there is sherry and coffee flavours. Comparing to the 1994 version there are more raisin flavour, less bitterness and carbonation, and it is dryer.
Regardless of vintage it is an outstanding very complex beer, which is surprising given it’s low gravity. Curse the devils that discontinued this fine beer, I’ve only got 17 bottles left of it now.
pilsnerrogge (1589), Finspång, Sweden Jun 4, 2002 This WAS a great brew. Dark ruby colour, light brownish head. Roasted coffee aroma. Smooth n’ sweet coofee flavour. Sadly discontinued nowadays. :-( argo0 (6176), Washington DC, USA Aug 23, 2005 (1996 bottle) Dark brown body topped by a small creamy off-white head that leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is moderately sweet, caramel, vinous. Taste is moderately sweet, caramel, chocolate, toffee, some nutty, butterscotch, raisin. Creamy light-medium body. Remarkable how well this beer, a dunkel, has held up. Thank you Jeppe for sharing. ante (2503), Stockholm (Bromma), Sweden Jan 23, 2004 (Vintage 1996, sampled at Akkurat, Stockholm, Sweden). Dark murky brown, almost black. No head. Mmmmm. I can smell spices, sweet licorice, dark dried fruit, dark malt and maderia wine. Taste of dark unsweetened chocolate, spices, licorice, smoke. Fruity and vinous finish. What a beer! And it is a dunkel!!! duff (5405), Sydney, Australia, Surrey, England Aug 16, 2005 Bottle 1996 vintage. Much thanks to Jeppe for sharing this one! Nice sweetish brew, with a very soft, yet complex mouthfeel, smooth, round mouthfeel. All sorts of flavours come through, oak, nuts, wood and some raisiny fruit and chocolate, caramel and roast, nice long finish, very good stuff.
