Head is initially large, frothy, off-white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy medium amber, bottle conditioned. Aroma is moderately yeasty (barnyard, cobwebs), moderately malty (toasted grain, cookie), with notes of peach, apricot, pear, grass, etc. Flavor is heavily sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, lightly astringent. Mmmmm, baby. Maybe just a smidge too sweet for a perfect score, but this was one of top three (out of over a hundred) beers I had the last time I was in Europe...this one at the Bier Circus in Brussels. Just amazing.

Pours a cloudy orange color with floaties and a medium white head. The aroma is earthy and fruity with milf funk. Flavor of fruits, mild funk and spices. The body is light to medium with a dry mouthfeel and soft carbonation. This one feels a bit over the hill but it was still very interesting. Merci beaucoup MartinL!

Fresh green vegetables, grapefruit, tangerine and strong herbs explode into the nose along with assertive barnyard aromas and subtle, very personal, musky, sweaty characteristics. Opaque, tan coloured body is topped by a lasting cover of white, fine bubbled head that laces nicely. Very dry and spicy flavour has plenty of ginger and coriander. Somewhat sharp and acidic. Almost winelike at times. Medium body with fair carbonation. Bottle enjoyed with beerbuzzmontreal, Goldorak, MartinT, muzzlehatch, Olivier_MTL, Rastacouere and Siroy.

Found in Dany Prignon’s box of oddities he found when I happened to visit the brewery, all he said about it was "This one was really good". The label was showing significant signs of decay and I was a bit worried about carbonation but Pop! it went and it poured out sparkling as if it just came out of the barnhouse brewery. Appearance: Distinctly murky saison-ish peach, the head was thick and compact, almost looked like an Orval there for a second... Smell: As weird as any Fantôme I’ve ever had...Armpits, cat urine, a wet sack of potatoes that started to spud, and a whole slew of funky aromas that decorum prohibits me to discuss in any great length here. Taste: As old as it was, it still had plenty of legs body-wise as well as carbonation is concerned, with a very strong yeasty, wet bread with herbs texture, a strange acidity that mixed with the mineral palate to give a truely original mouthfeel. Seemed well attenuated by the fact that it didn’t register any sweetness at all, but then again alcohol was also a complete non-factor, even at a whopping 10%.

A fully lasting small frothy white head that tops up a hazy medium orange/peachy body. Moderate lacing. Many average size particles. Few medium bubbles. Aroma presents a full gueuzy nose with tones of barnyard, sourness, tartness. heavy hay and cobwebs.. moderate earth. Also, there are evident evocations of mustard seeds plus some lactic and ascorbic acid impressions. Initial flavor is medium sour while development gets more complex and presents tones of lemon/citrus/apple.. moderate acidic and some ashy feel. Finish is medium and chalky. Medium to full body... oily texture... Soft carbonation... Very impressive for the aging. Again, deepest thanks to Goldorak/Martin for sharing this gem!

750 ml bottle, from 2000 of course, Montreal Sourheads gathering on February 26 2006. Opaque, oily peach with a lasting fluffy head, in good condition and quite viable despite the decaying, intransigent cork.....sour barnyardy nose, horseblanket and gueuze-like, musty old oiled woods (elm and cherry), rotting oranges and "typical" funky weirdness....flavor is citrusy-sour, dry and acidic and mouth-tingling throughout, lemon-lime spiked with dried rosemary and old tobacco....the finish is really quite amazing, as the sour-ale character is finally joined by more malt and a touch of alcohol, sour cherries and heavy mineralic qualities make me wonder if this is the unholy child of Rodenbach and Vervifontaine? Whatever it is, I’m in love and nothing will cure me but more Fantôme! Thanks again from the bottom of my heart for this generous taste, and tasting at your palace of beer, Goldorak.
