Cloudy amber
Aroma of citrus with bright lime
Umm. Citrus and more citrus in delicious layers. Lime is prevalent. Corona with lime, but on belgian designer steriods. Sour. Touch of chewy apple wood, mexican cinnamon stick. Refreshing! Stir the sediment for some spiced bread.
enjoyed this with a variety of Bingham Hill and MouCo cheeses. Especially good with the fresh cheeses. mixamatt (427), San Francisco, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 9, 2004 Tart apple cider, white wine aroma. Murky sparkling orange appearance with little head. Sour yeasty barnyard flavors of citrus, apples and cheese. Fruity grapes towards the dryish straw finish. jzzbassman (852), New Albany, Mississippi, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 9, 2004 Poured an orange color with almost zero head. The fact that the cork came out with barely a pop made me wonder if it wasn’t corked badly.
The good new is that it didn’t affect much other than the appearance. The big citrus/ spice aroma. The flavor was earthy, musty, and vinuos, with a sour grape charater that was very appetizing. heykevin (1269), Iowa City, Iowa, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 3, 2004 Lightly hazy golden. Hoppy lemony aroma, some considerable spice character. Very herbal. Light shimmering maltiness. Clean straw-like note. Dry finish. Solid zing of bitterness, with more lemon and a spicy note late. Another gem from Dany. Silphium (2160), Haslett, Michigan, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 29, 2004 Sampled at marinaro500’s post-Thanksgiving gathering, provided by BBB63. Cloudy yellow-orange body, medium off-white head. Very perfumey, sour aroma with lemon and spices (yarrow or other Apiaceae), peppery. Sour and quite spicy body with pineapple, perfume, yarrow, and flower petals. Had a front-of-the-tongue sharpness I didn’t detect in the d’Ete. Fantome beers remind me of aborted Tripels with heavy spicing. That’s a good thing, BTW. BBB63 (4274), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 29, 2004 Updated: Feb 29, 2008RERATE, 2006 bottle: Still seems a tad to herbal and flowery for my tastes. The barnyard on the nose does not appear to be as heavy this time but that is about the only change for me. A: +1
Original Review: At Joes’ party, I think I got this in a trade but can’t remember from whom? Cloudy yellow hue with a small frothy head and very good lace. Major barnyard and musty yeast esters going on here with a touch of sour apple and wildflowers. A bit different from some of the Dany’s brews, but you can still detect a common theme. The taste starts twangy and tart, citric fruit at the forefront. Followed quickly with the funky yeast nature, some light spicy undertones as well. The finish displays a almost woody character and is very flowery. The feel is quite lively and bone dry. Good but not great, among the most floral Fantômes I have had. I’ll buy another and let it age for a rerate. unclebleen (620), California, USA
