Commercial Description:
Dany, the offbeat brewer at Fantôme, will try anything, and the results are always interesting. A beer made from dandelions would be worth a try if only because no one has ever brewed one before, but the great news is that this is actually a very good beer.
Dany and some cohorts get busy every spring picking bushels of dandelions that grow in the fields around the picturesque farmhouse brewery. The yellow flowers are removed and dried in the sun, then soaked in water for a few days. The thick, dark dandelion “tea” that results is the basis for the Pissenlit, which is made also from traditional barley malt and hops. It resembles a classic saison beer – golden spritzy brew, strong and very flavorful, with a good hop bite. You may have to strain to taste the dandelions, but you know they’re in there.
It should be noted that uncooked, the dandelion has a diuretic effect and is known in France as Pissenlit (literally, "wet the bed" - this also happens to be the British folk-name) for precisely this reason.

Earthy, peppery, fresh, herbal aroma. Pours dark golden color with a thick white head. Fresh and crisp flavor with a slight tartness, sweet malt with some citrus flavors, very refreshing. Awesome beer!

2004 bottle - Hazy orange-amber with a medium pillowy head. Aroma is like a fresh field in springtime - some fresh flowers, spices, a bit of honey and yeast, and a hint of floral hop aroma. Flavor is sweet, a bit sour, a tad bitter, and quite mellow - definately taste the flowery-dandelion flavors along with some light honey and floral hops. Light without being boring - this one impresses. Bonus point for creativity.

2004 bottle from a southern season. Pour is cloudy dark orange with a thin white head. Nose and flavor of funky malt, floral hops, a little lemony citrusness, and cloudy yeast. You can see the pile of dark yeast sitting in the bottom of the bottle. quite fun to look at sometimes. Another great brew from Fantome. Saisons are very thankful for Fantome, as am I.

Creamy looking gold, thin white head. Nose is soft lemon, yeast a bit of age, some spice. Flavor is brigher fruits, yeast, light caramel, barnyard funk and yes, dadeliions. Stunning creamy body.

2004 750ml bottle. Poured into a tulip glass with a thick, murky orange-amber color and a small head. Aroma is great with a cut hay, tarty, bretty sourness. Then comes a cocao-biscuit maltiness. The combination is great and its all effervescent and very airy. There is also a bit of bittered green peel, which is much stronger in the flavor. The flavor is actually dominated by bittered peel flavor. Its also extremely dry on the gums. This dry peel aspect really overshadows the other aspects of the flavor. Finishes with light tart sweetness. When the sediment is poured out the bittered peel flavor is reduced and more tart maltiness comes in.

2003 - Deep hazy amber body, small small bubbled off white head; Pleasant fresh nose, lemoon juice and peel, minty; Big soft carbonation on bitter slightly fruity acidy body; Long fruity acidy balanced body, dense minty and lemon like aromas. Great fresh and full beer.

Thanks to kp for bringing this to noogfest III. This pours a cloudy orange color. Tangy, tart citrusy, complex. Interesting and tasty.
