| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 1/5 | 8/20 | Oct 17, 2009 750 ml. Hazy, deep golden body. No head whatsoever because there is no carbonation to speak of which is disappointing right out of the blocks. The aroma has notes of grass, lemon, toasted grain, leather, cobwebs. The flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic and lightly bitter. The finish is lightly sweet, moderately bitter, moderately to heavily acidic. Medium body with a thick, smooth texture, no carbonation. Tastes like very sour orange juice with barnyard and flower flavors. Badly balanced compared to classic saisons. The lack of carbonation is a major flaw. Very disappointing especially considering how much this cost. durhambeer (1229), Durham, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 11, 2009 Bottle from Sam’s in Durham. Pours hazy dark gold with amber tint. Nice head, if small. Dandelions, citrus, some hops, funky yeast (but mild for Fantome, perhaps). Slight lemony-cherry sour notes as well. Spices are there but not overpowering at all... maybe a touch of something cinnamon-like? Light, slick palate. This was less challenging than I thought it might be, but more delicious. Really good. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 6, 2009 750ml from Sam’s, Durham. First of all, I actually think I pissed less than with other beers. Natural diuretic, my ass. That said, this is a Fantome beer, and as such it’s weird and rather awesome. Deep, darkish golden pour with big bubbles, minimal head. Like daknole, I smell the flowers a mile away. Citrus, profound yeast, and flora in the nose, with a touch of mustard seed and weirdly elusive spices. Full mouthfeel, but the flavor is less tart than I’d have expected. While still funky and yeasty enough to rank with M. Prignon’s other offerings, the sharp flavors of chewed flowers (c’mon, we’ve all been there) blends really wwell with the spice and yeast. Finish is lengthy and more refreshing than expected. Very tasty. daknole (3027), Scottsdale, Arizona, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 5, 2009 A real treat from JW77. Pours a cloudy orange. Aroma is lemony, funky, earthy, and I swear I smell dandelions. Flavor is delicious! I can taste the damned flowers! Along with wet earth, lemon notes, yeast, and doughy notes. This was awesome!! | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Oct 3, 2009 750mL bottle poured into a tulip.
A vigorous pour produces a slightly hazy golden orange body and a small head made up of big bubbles that cling to the side as a collar on the way down.
The aroma is light and floral with plenty of grassy notes, citrus hops and maybe a hint of the dandelions. There is an overall herbal and floral character to the aroma.
The taste has a surprisingly tart kick up that’s an interesting combination of musty barnyard and lemons. There’s some toasted bread in the background as well as some floral and herbal notes, maybe dandelion, but I’m not exactly sure what that would taste like anyway.
The mouthfeel is very slick with extremely low carbonation and a bit sweet on the palate. I was actually surprised at how little carbonation there was on this one.
This is a decent beer from Fantome but definitely not one of my favorites. I honestly think the mouthfeel holds this one back for me and a slightly more spritzy feel would make this much better. BDR (2169), Roseville, Minnesota, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 3, 2009 A lovely cloudy orange color with innumerable bubbles eventually forming the faintest white head. Dominant yeast on the aroma with floral and citrus undertones. Despite the bubbles, it feels flat. Very sweet with a dominant yeast flavor and hints of citrus. A hint of tartness and floral flavors as well. CheersMate1 (850), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 1, 2009 750 ml. bottle picked up at Green’s Liquor Store on Ponce De Leon. After trading this I decided it would probably be best if I tried it too. Head fades away quickly. The color is pretty awesome to me; a nice haze orange appearance. A slight sourish aroma. Surprisingly, I can see that they used dandelions in brewing this. Slight lemon tart aroma. Flower-like aroma as well. Tart berry aroma. Wish it could be more pungent. Slight tart flavor with a nice lemon sour zing. Flowerly type flavor as well. The beer doesn’t "pop" in terms of flavor or aroma. Fairly smooth for a saison. Overall, slightly sour saison; a little too thin for, but still very interesting and unique. MatSciGuy (640), Rosemount, Minnesota, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 1, 2009 [Bottle] Pours cloudy gold. The beer looks basically still when I pour it, but some bubbles slowly make their way to the surface, making the liquid appear quite viscous. Aroma is orange, herbal, belgian yeast, light hints of tartness, and a little mustiness. Flavor is lightly tart, somewhat citric, has an herbal character that has a light bitterness that definitely could be contributed by dandelions. I wouldn’t ever guess that this contains dandelions, but it is really tasty. The flat mouthfeel is the only thing that I would change. Really a nice and unique beer.
