Dorwart (1807), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA Nov 20, 2006 Very large light orange colored head of medium sized bubbles. Dense and creamy on top. Awesome carbonation. Spicy grassy aroma. Lots of pepper and straw. Color is a dark orangish brown. Spicy and dry and a little tart. Fizzy in the mouth. Little dandelion greens and some other bitter green leafy stuff. Dry and lingering spicy aftertaste. Some bitter hops presence also. Little noticable alcohol and warming. Palate is a little thicker that most saisons. More malts that most. A decent saison. Eructoblaster (1477), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Nov 18, 2006 Bottle - 750ml. Light amber hazy body with moderate carbonation and a thin off-white foamy/creamy head. Sharp hoppy aroma with sour and fruity notes. Taste is milder than expected. Fresh hoppy flavors with green apple/cider hints. Alcohol is very well hidden. Ends with a decent bitter/sour finish. skoisirius (570), Seattle, Washington, USA Oct 22, 2006 Updated: Oct 26, 2006750 ml bottle into a Tulip glass. Pours a somewhat dark to light hazy orange with a big fluffy white head. The aroma blasts off with a fruity, flowery, and very spicey nose with citrus and pear being noticable. The flavor has many notes of the nose being quite peppery. Also having notes of dried fruit, old yeast, grass, and big notes of just farms in general. The body is somewhat thick and it leaves a coating on the palate throughout the spicey finish. The spice sticks around for up to a half an hour after a sip! I love Fantome, and would love to be able to find this more often!!!! ante (2904), Stockholm, Sweden Oct 4, 2006 Bottled. dark orange hazy appearance with a fluffy white head. Intense and quite beautiful aroma mango, bloodoranges, quantalope melon, over-riped peasrs and lemon with a funky yeasty undertone with notes of flowers and spices. very fruity and concentraded flavour of flowers, oranges, honey, mango and apricot with a dryish finish of funky yeast, oranges, leaves, fudge and mild spices. Spanking good stuff!!! beermatrix (1497), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA Oct 2, 2006 Dark orange cloud with a hard glow in bright light. Solid medium sized lightly yellowed cap puffs up quickly to reside to a firm lasting cap of about a quarter inch always present. Lacing is lightly foamy and patterned in thick strings and a few spots.
Aroma has a popping spice of lemon pepper with a slight musky rustic wave from the yeast action and a slight grassyness. Gently powering and adequately waftable on the nose.
Taste is quite spicy and complexly driven by the yeasty stuff. Partailly souring with lemon juice and lime skin, a bit of tangerine sticks to the gums and tongue in parts of the late finish. Tiny bits of white pepper, corriander, metalic scrappings, and high toned grasses make for lots of added interest. Nothing to withstanding in length as the peppery notes and tin phenols are the only thing that seems to stick in warmth as it floats into the finish. A light citrusy center envelopes as it begins to warm. The spices are quite complexing, but not quite as impressionable for me as the malt body in this is shortened compartively to other Fantome brews I like alot. Although, If ya like spicy beers, this will definately float your palate boat. A little too spicy for my buds, but likeable in an intriguing fashion as it tends to grow on ya with a wonderful spicy warmth.
Feel is firm and active with a whole lot of vibrant, mouth tenderizing spicyness. Mildly souring in a moderate tone of acceptable lemony-limeness and broadening yeasty grab and heavy texture. Dryness is also frim and moderate in tone, making for a slower session. PilsnerPeter (2585), Flushing, New York, USA Sep 20, 2006 Pours a murky amber with an off-white head. Has a tart fruity scent & a hint of barnyard. Somewhat grainy and dry for a saison. Upfront tart berry flavors with a gritty bitter finish, almost coffe like. Different. rederic (1787), montréal, Quebec, Canada Sep 12, 2006 Hazy amber-orangeish hue, with a rocky beige head, yeasty, winey fruitiness, with a nice spicy nose of coriander, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and vanilla, with some ripe apples fruity notes, toasted malt, sort of musky feeling in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a yeasty winey fruitiness character, of ripe apples, raisins, vinous notes, funkiness, leading towards an acidic fruity peppery finish. I’m less impress of this one, than the firt time i tasted in spuyten duyvel 2004. JMFG (1514), Florida, USA Sep 10, 2006 Poured a nice dark orange-copper color with a light tan head. Aroma was grassy and combined a meld of spices. Flavor suggested apples, cloves, anise, and had an oddly appealing peppery heat at the end that lingered in conjunction with a mild sourness.
