Lubiere (4464), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Dec 10, 2005 Deeply hazy golden ale with a thick big bubbled white head. Nice spicey yeast aroma with notes of lemon, oranges and herbs. In mouth, funky herbal tatse, with lemony notes, and acid points. No alcohol noticed. Winter 2005 jrt (62), USA Nov 19, 2005 Updated: Sep 1, 2007I love this beer! Beautiful, dense head appears orange-creme. Kind of subtle compared to most Saisons I’ve had (especially other Fantomes) but very quaffable and tasty. I tasted hints of beeswax and clove. Really! Definitely got the citrus peel thing at the end, but also malty and sour tang. Great mouthfeel. SG (456), San Clemente, California, USA Aug 29, 2005 A light yellow, hazy beer. Dominated by orange peel, slightly bitter. A little boring actually (that’s a bold statement for a fantome beer). I want to give the benefit of doubt that this beer is either too warm or not a great example, but I’m holding my breath. Still, better than a lot of stuff out there. zug4abby (287), San Diego, California, USA Aug 23, 2005 Tasted @ Dr. Bill’s party... thanks!
Dark golden color with a small head and lots of lacing. Strong horseblanket aroma and taste. Very strong grassy notes through-out with hints of citrus in the flavor. very grassy aftertaste as well.
willblake (2160), Belcamp, Maryland, USA Aug 19, 2005 08.19.05 750ml bottle. Dark, hazed, and lovely sunrise golden below a thinly remaining film of white foam. Aroma is fruity and sweet like a tripel, but grassy and sharp like a ligher saison. Nice. Citrus and cotton candy, strawberry jam and lemon grass. Quite light and juicy throughout. Heaps of interesting juxtipositions make this brew a delight. JFURYCAT (782), East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 17, 2005 I had two samples of this at Belgium Comes to Cooperstown 2005. The skunkiness factor was quite low and I thank the bottle-keeper for this as my experience with green bottles has been interesting. The beer had a touch of grassiness with some citrus and maltiness in there. rudolf (1734), Buffalo, New York, USA Jul 17, 2005 Lemony candy wheaty nose. Rich malt, grassy hops. The flavor is a lot richer than I expected but still refreshing. Alc. is present as are hops, plums & figs erway (1002), Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA Jul 15, 2005 Pours deep gold with a white bubbly head. Aroma is somewhat skunky and light lemons. Flavor is slightly oxidized with a great hoppy grassiness. Some band-aid flavors. Dry hoppiness. Pretty clean but that house character still shines through. Very refreshing, fruity enjoyable, and above all else, fascinating.
