MI2CA (1260), Noblesville, Indiana, USA Jul 10, 2005 25oz - Aroma is pungent with wet hay, swampy green growth, and tons of spices. Pours a nice thick head over a cloudy yellow body leaving great lacing. Flavor is tangy and musty, layered with spice. The yeast and malt show up, but only for a minute. Palate is sticky and bubbly. An intriguing and fun brew. fly (1331), austin, Tejas, USA Jul 8, 2005 Mon dieu ! Dites-moi pourquoi je boirais d’une bière de ressort en été ? De telles choses que je fais dans l’intéret de te de la bière. And while I enjoyed this and like the fruity character, deep down in the finish was an earthy, herbal note that I just didn’t appreciate. I guess it was that summer/spring conflict, n’est pas?
CapFlu (3480), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Jun 13, 2005 (750ml bottle) Pours a huge frothy head with a cloudy sediment-filled orange body. Lemon, acidic grapefruits. The flavour is tart, lemony, acidic oranges and coriander. Good stuff. Many thanks for sharing Lubiere... tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Jun 13, 2005 Musty, barnyard aroma is lightly fruity with honeyish tones and an alluring, if gentle, spiciness. Hazy, tan-gold with decent white head that recedes to partial cover and ring. Woody, caramel flavour has a fair bitterness in the long, dry finish, Plenty of grassy, herbal hop character mingles with the spiciness. Medium body with fair carbonation that is lightly effervescent. Sampled at Mondial de la Bière 2005. mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 12, 2005 bottle. hazy orange body with a fluffy white head. plush aroma of a potpourri with a myriad of spices. very funky.. a flavourful saison that I could easily drink on any scorcher like today. soft malts. liberal spicing throughout the body. another interesting beer from Fantôme...I’m really digging this brewery. Brodie (540), Blowing Rock, North Carolina, USA Jun 10, 2005 Bottle from about 2002. Sweet floral aroma, a bit of wet hay, orange peel, maybe some spicy hops, white pepper. Golden amber color, solid white head. Funk comes out in the flavor, really floral, like eating flower petals, a little wet hay, light tart fruit, spicy hops. Medium-light body, crisp. Great summer beer, amazing combination of crisp and bright flavors. Thanks to Schroppfy for sharing! TChrome (1298), Bedford, Texas, USA Jun 7, 2005 Bottle @ 58F: Pretty golden color like liquid gold. Big, fluffy whipped egg white head that is totally retained. Aroma is enjoyable with lots of yeast, a little funk, dust, and lots of spice. Flavor is a tour de force of Saison brewing. Light, effervescent, with a big yeast flavor, some coriander, a little white pepper, and an incredible distilled flower flavor that is heavenly. Maybe my favorite saison ever. Delightful.
