Commercial Description:
This is a delicious, textural, and fizzy county ale, bright gold colour, citric and sour, reminiscent of a good champagne or lambic but in a class all its own.
Fantôme – Golden ale, 8% alc. by volume, with a wonderfully musty and characterful aroma. There are many drinkers out there who believe this is the “Nectar of the Gods.” Certainly no other brewer makes beer like this, in Belgium or anywhere. How many beers of 8% plus offer such fresh fruitiness? A solid Belgian saison beer at its base, with an unusual overlay of fruitiness.

Bottle. Orange color with white head. Very faint aroma of citrus. Very sweet tasting. Almost no bitterness. A good Saison but more than a bottle would have been too much to stomach.

Re-rate 2008. Now I can better appreciate the complexity of this beauty. Orange with a white head. Very complex aroma of citrus and exotic fruits and a bunch of spices from the wonderful Fantome yeast. Sweet and fruity flavour with a little tartness. Like grapefruit juice with some subtle spices, good sweetness and a touch of alcohol presence.

Hazy golden poor with lots of small but heavy deposits and a small tanned head. Aromas of grapefruit, rhubarb, avocado, tangerine peelings and a little acid..... Just smelling ths beer makes me thirsty. Definitely weird ... odd mouthfeel. First time i can honestly say i’m unable to detect any bitterness at all. Slightly sweet and very acid. Aromas weirdly reflects nicely the flavors. Nicely added lime and salt? Very awkward yet somewhat enjoyable.

Big bubbled lasting white head on very hazy orange golden body; Very big apple, pear nose with lots of earthy strawberry, sugared lemon juice, fresh orange juice and tone of very clear exotic guava aromas, very deep, fresh and good; Very fresh apple juice sour body, deep with a very special complex sourness, very little sharp carbonation; Long very, very aroma full finish, again this sugar lemon touch, apricot juice, lots of guava and a very little Orval like brett. Very, very special, almost more like freshly squeezed juice from a thick textured fruit like apricot or guava.

750 ml bottle. A very hazy deep orange beer with a small and disappearing white head. The aroma is inviting with its light sourness and the balance between malt, yeast and hops. Notes of flowers, grass, citrus, hay and light peppery hints. The flavour has the same balanced acidity of the aroma and a very pronounced fruitiness (citiric and tropical fruits), and grass, flowers, hay from the hops plus some peppery spiciness. Medium body, lively carbonation, very dry long finish with medium bitterness: The alcohol is well hidden. Fantastic complexity, very quenching with great drinkability: one of my favourite beer from one of my favourite breweries.

Pours a cloudy golden orange with a medium white head. Wow, this beer smells good. Orange peel, wierd spices, earthiness, and citrus fruits. Fantastic. The taste has nice orange or tangerine flavor to it. The spices really come into play in the finish, as its all fruit up front. Very earthy too. Extremely refreshing taste. This one ranks very high on my favorite saison list and is near the top of my favorite Fantome brews. Another awesome product from these guys.

750ml bottle. Pours hazy gold with a large white head that subsides. Lovely aroma of lemons and spices. The flavour follows the same themes - it starts sweet and then a sourness develops. The finish is somewhat bitter and nicely long-lasting. Overall, very smooth and easy to drink, with the strength nicely disguised. Very refreshing and an excellent example of the style.
