Commercial Description:
This is a delicious, textural, and fizzy county ale, bright gold colour, citric and sour, reminiscent of a good champagne or lambic but in a class all its own.
Fantôme – Golden ale, 8% alc. by volume, with a wonderfully musty and characterful aroma. There are many drinkers out there who believe this is the “Nectar of the Gods.” Certainly no other brewer makes beer like this, in Belgium or anywhere. How many beers of 8% plus offer such fresh fruitiness? A solid Belgian saison beer at its base, with an unusual overlay of fruitiness.

[Bottle shared with Beermouth and cab at Carlsens.] I’ll better drink some more saisons now I’m familiar with them. Notes of witbier, sour and flowers in this nice brew. Also spices, cellaringnotes and sweetness. All in all a very nice beer!

Bottle, poured a cloudy pretty gold with white bubbles, wild flower floral aroma, faint pilsner malt fragrance with faint sour and grape skin aromas, sweet, & spice in the background, white pepper, citrus tart, pear and faint pilsner malt taste, very dry on the palate, spices on the tongue, faint green apple flavor, has a cider like tartness, there is a cellar or wood texture to this drink, I thought the lemon tartness overshadowed the flavors of the beer, there is a cellar touch to this brew, like I stepped into a damp basement, I wished the tartness did not permeate so much, I would have enjoyed this more.

Appearance: Hazy medium gold with huge long lasting belgian foam. Aroma: Musty and spicy with a sulphuriness. Perhaps poorly aged? Flavour: Musty and spicy again. Some phenolic clove character. Tastes muddy . Mouthfeel: fluffy, very carbonated and prickly. Overall: Underwhelmed. Seems like an older beer which didn’t age gracefully. Musty almost corked aroma and flavour. Oxidized and with a mildewy - musty basement character.

Murky orange with a thick head and good lacing. A musky, fruity and floral aroma of citrus, brett, honey, bread dough, wood, pineapple, orange peels, earthy and musky, spices that I can’t exactly put my finger on (black pepper, anise, coriander?), some alcohol, and lots more. Overall, a huge aroma, well-rounded. The taste was tart and fruity upfront, then proceeded to move further into lambic territory with crisp funky sourness, but finished with bready maltiness (almost sweet) and spices. The mouthfeel was light, but smooth, with medium carbonation.

From a capped corked 750 ml. green bottle with lot number and freshness date along the right side of front label, blurb on the back label, sampled at just above cellar temperature in a tulip glass. Poured a cloudy golden orange with a small foamy white head, good retention, small amount of laced sticking. Aromas of tart, earthy, musty bready yeast, lemons and a light tropical fruitiness, a soft sugary, and subtle whiffs of medicinal herbs with the alcohol. Good airy carbonation and a crisp, dry, lustrous. smooth medium-light bodied mouthfeel. A smooth, pleasant tasting saison, tart, earthy, hayish yeast, grainy, a light tropical fruit with sour lemons squeezed over them, just enough sugar to balance the yeasty tartness, a soft spicy, herbal hoppiness, the fruity esters mesh with the alcohol that provide a slow warmth in the palate, and a dry tart yeasty, malty finish. An excellent saison, easy, smooth drinkability, one of the best saison out there.

Seriously sealed with a crown cap, and a flush cork, this green bomber yielded a pale straw colored beer that was very cloudy with suspended yeast. The head was two finger thick and foamy. The aroma was hearty, yeasty, and rustic. The taste was drier than the middle of the Sahara Desert. This moderately spiced farmhouse ale was tart, floral, and noticeably bitter. A little taste of vanilla, followed by an oak dominated finish. Went very well with some spent grain bread (from a local brewpub) dipped in Fleur de Sel butter as well as some Beemster cheese. I felt that this Saison was a little less malty and funkier than the standard bearer of the style Saison DuPont (although it does have more ABV). Nonetheless, this was a hearty and refreshing drink, and I found it it be well deserving of the accolades it has gotten.
