Commercial Description:
This is a delicious, textural, and fizzy county ale, bright gold colour, citric and sour, reminiscent of a good champagne or lambic but in a class all its own.
Fantôme – Golden ale, 8% alc. by volume, with a wonderfully musty and characterful aroma. There are many drinkers out there who believe this is the “Nectar of the Gods.” Certainly no other brewer makes beer like this, in Belgium or anywhere. How many beers of 8% plus offer such fresh fruitiness? A solid Belgian saison beer at its base, with an unusual overlay of fruitiness.

Fantome Saison off tap. How can I pass this one up. I’ve had it out of a bottle before, but this was a superb beer experience. The sweet nectar was poured off tap into a Fantome tulip glass. The beer was a beautiful oranged yellow color wtih a thick billowing head over top that didn’t want to fall for anything. What a nose. Lemon, acid, slight pepper, grapefruity citrus. Damn. All I can say. Nirvana. The nose was great...the flavor was perfection. There is an underlying mandarin orange sweetness that is overlayed with huge lemony citrus acidity and peppery notes. There is a whole lot more going on in there, but I couldn’t put pen to paper and give it justice. Suffice to say it was orgasmic. The feel was right below moderate, exactly where it should be. My only issue was that I was drinking it in the dead of winter, when I thought it should be a summer brew. Overall, I think it is second to none. I could have parked my glass under the tap all night and just drank this. If I ever find it, I will be forced to see if I can get a keg for home. I will actively seek this beer out whenever I can.

Out of a bottle at rich’s, color resembled a mixed drink using orange juice. Damp basement smell, yeasty. Fruity draw yet crisp. Different for me as my first of this type overall very tasty, distinct.

musty, nutty aroma, a little bit of flowery hop aroma. color is reminiscent of a whiskey sour, cloudy orange, tons of sediment, and a huge creamy white head. flavor has a very nice crisp spicyness, but alot of yeastiness, more than most other saisons. finish is nice and clean, spices dominate and linger. a little different, but still very nice.

Hazy orange color, floating yeast, beautiful beige creamy head. Aroma has flower, lemon, leather, cardboard and horse blanket. Medium-bodied. Citrusy, hoppy, hints of cardboard. Some spices like coriander. Hoppy aftertaste. Very refreshing. A bit like drinking Orval though this is a saison.

Bottle at Monk’s. Sorry, but the beer was "corked." Oxidized, corky, spoiled beer. After two sips, had to tell the barmaid to take it away. Will try again another time.

Very good tart acidity with a spicy pepper and fruits nose. Wild honey and cloves with rosemary and lemon cookies. Some orange zest and pralines initially giving way to a nice acidic lemon peel charcters with a caramel and roasr balance. Great appetizing finish.

Hazy, yellow-orange. Creamy, frothy 1/2" thick head. Aroma is bready, like sweet cakes, with some lemony and spicy accents. Flavor is smooth, sour, citric and spicy: lemons, honey, cloves, coriander, yeast and most predominantly pepper. Fruity orange and lemon esters. Chewy malts, but could use some residual sugar to keep it better balanced. Loses some carbonation near the end. Peppery finish with a clove edge. Thins out, leaving a slight sour statement for the aftertaste. Had this one with Leedamer cheese, and that made this tasting that much more enjoyable.
