Commercial Description:
This is a delicious, textural, and fizzy county ale, bright gold colour, citric and sour, reminiscent of a good champagne or lambic but in a class all its own.
Fantôme – Golden ale, 8% alc. by volume, with a wonderfully musty and characterful aroma. There are many drinkers out there who believe this is the “Nectar of the Gods.” Certainly no other brewer makes beer like this, in Belgium or anywhere. How many beers of 8% plus offer such fresh fruitiness? A solid Belgian saison beer at its base, with an unusual overlay of fruitiness.

Bottle shared at tasting. Thanks! Pours bright orange and glowing with a thin head. Smell is fruity, strawberries and yeast with funkiness. Taste is spiced, coriander, faint strawberry fruitiness, and some cherry perhaps too. Medium body and soft carbonation. Definitely a unique Saison and enjoyable.

750ml bottle. Pours a cloudy, pale yellow with a white head. Nose was slight skunk, orange peel and funky barnyard. Taste was like alka seltzer in soda water. Some really sweet orange and lemon soda water. Mouthfeel is tart and fizzy with lots of carbonation and a dry aftertaste. A little disappointed as I had been wanting to try this for some time and it didn’t measure up to what I was expecting.

Perfect body. Nice thick white head with tons of sediment. Very hazy. Very thin yet complex nose; first sweet with a tartness to it. Rich deep flavor that is very citrusy in a mild and rounded way. Very good carbonation. The lingering head allows for a nice crisp foam taste in your mouth. Perfectly rounded for the amount of citrus flavor in this beer. Pick this up if you see it.

Bottle. Split with DeputyAndy. Pours a dark cloudy orange with a thick white head. Aroma is complex - sweet, tart, coriander interweaving. Taste is great - the most citrus and orange I’ve ever tasted in a single beer, and done in a good way.

Very good saison, my favorite from this brewery so far. Pours a gazy gold with slight tinge of orange and a fluffy white head. Sweet and fruity, with a balanced pepper and funkiness. Lemon grass, apple, cherries, fruity esters. Good brew, and easy to drink.

Poured from a corked 750ml bottle (hard to read, but I believe the label says best by Sept. ’10) and served in a tulip. This poured a golden orange hue with a light haze and a thin layer of fizz that quickly settled into a lasting cap. Almost no lacing. The aroma consisted of fresh grass, lemon zest, orange peel, and spicy yeast esters. Musty and lightly funky. The nose gave the impression that this would be mostly dry, but there were actually quite a few notes of fresh, sweetened citrus. Oranges, pears, lemon, sourdough, and a touch of pepper and coriander round out the flavor. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied and had moderate carbonation. Slightly dry at the finish. Sweet and tart. Quite tasty!

2006 750 bottle. Hazy yellow-bright spicy nose. Funky, tart, a bit faded, very mild and smooth. Better fresh.
