Commercial Description:
Clean, crisp, and rebellious—the perfect antidote to bland, corporate lagers—U-19 Pilsner is named after the German U-boat that brought Sir Roger Casement back to Ireland in April 1916. Casement was attempting to rendezvous with the Aud, a cargo ship smuggling guns and ammunition into Ireland in support of the Easter Rising. The Aud was captured in Tralee Bay. Casement was later hanged for high treason.

(Draft: Celtic Bayou in Redmond, WA) More hoppy than the blonde ale, but the sweet, grainy flavor shows just as much presence, and this pilsner isn’t nearly as clean as I was expecting. Sweet and grainy aroma lacks the hop character of a good pilsner. The body is light-to-medium, but a bit heavier than most pilsners. Clear, golden color, with a whitish head that settles to a broken layer, but leaves a fairly large swatch of lace on the glass. Serviceable for a blonde ale, but not a good example of the pilsner style.

This was a really weak attempt at a pilsner. Way over hopped with some citrusy/floral hops, nothing subtle about, just in your face hops and bitterness. To bold of a beer that really missed the idea of the great delicateness of the pilsner style.

Golden blond with a nice layer of smooth cream. Crisp, clean, hop ping in the nose with some German hop flavor--of which I am not an aficianado. An easy drinking summer brew that failed to win me.

Cloudy gold(chill haze?) Crisp hop nose. Good crisp hop profile with a decent finish
