5000 (2400), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA Apr 23, 2006 Draught 04’ vintage @ Brouwer’s Café during Hard Liver 2006: Nearly mahogany, deep dark caramel, moderate tannish head, foamy, spotty lacing. Nose of bready alcohol, slight pine, phenols. Grainy astringent malt character, coarse citrus rind, and pine too. Moderate body, mouthfeel nearing the thin side. Astringent, lacking in depth. Boring finish, citrus rind lingers. Past its prime maybe?
Oakes (6853), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Mar 21, 2006 Hazy dark amber. Hoppy and chewy aroma with lots of caramel and bread crust. Big body is chewy and malty. Clean profile with hints of chocolate chip cookies. Plain jane. harlequinn (2746), Tacoma, Washington, USA Mar 13, 2006 A beautiful pour, deep brown with light ruby edges and just a bit of off white lacing. Somewhat winey aroma with a big bold beefy taste. A wonderful barleywine to pair with food and big and complex enough to stand up to alot of different choices and palates.
