Commercial Description:
Cask; Regular. Also available bottled.
We are pleased to announce the arrival of a new beer in the Farmer’s Stable of Beers. It is a 4.5% traditional best bitter, with malty notes from Maris Otter, crystal and chocolate malt, lightly hopped with good, old fashioned, Fuggles and Goldings. We like to keep our names local and this one is no exception. It is named after one of Maldon’s heroines - Ann Carter. She was a leader of the Maldon Grain Riots in 1629 and called herself Captain Ann Carter - hence the name of the beer is CAPTAIN ANN.

Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of madmitch76. Pours amber with a slight haze and an off-white head. Roasted, sweetish malt in the nose. Body is not quite medium, actually this is a little thinn, fruity accents and quite some caramel. Subdued bitteness. 221109

Cask/gravity at the Blue Boar Maldon 3 May 08 (and bottle 0,5l at Rune’s 27 Sep 08) Dark brown colored. No head. Modest roasted aroma. Overall watery impression. Some fruity hints. Sweet aftertaste. (The tasting notes of the bottled version goes in the same direction with the addition of some malt in the aroma and flavor. Score: 3, 2, 3, 3, 11)

500ml bottle (bb.30/9-08) bought in Maldon in May 08 and shared with Finn at an autumn party in Tromsø. Crystal clear, dark brown body. Low tan head. Malty profile with a light smell of dark malts followed by moderate hints of chocolate malts in the flavour. Soft carbonated and rather light on the swallow. Low-level bitterness to a beer that is described as a Traditional Best Bitter. Has got some resemblance to a German Schwartzbier in look and taste (27.09.2008).
