Commercial Description:
Cask; Occasional. Also available bottle conditioned.
A robust stout brewed for the winter months using chocolate malt to give a rich flavour. Launched at the 2nd Maldon Beer Festival, this beer celebrates Edward Bright, "the fat man of Maldon", who died in 1750, weighing over 44 stones. There was a local wager that seven hundred men would fit into Edward Brigth's waistcoat. The wager was won when seven men from the Dengie Hundred got into the waistcoat.
Ingredients: Maris Otter pale malt, chocolate malt. Goldings hops.

Cask at the Thurrock Beer Festival. Almost black with a frothy tan head. Earthy aroma. Earth and good bitterness, hints of caramel and fruit. Medium body. Decent.

Sampled from cask (gravity dispense) at 6th Chelmsford Winter Beer Festival 2005.
Thin light brown head on a black body. Sweet roasted coffee aroma with fruit hints. Hard roasted flavor with obvious coffee and a sweet chocolaty finish. Hints of citrus. Quite sticky.

Quite a lightweight stout, but no less tasty for that. It’s at the drier end of the stout spectrum, with roasty malt and hints of chocolate. Clean, mellow mouthfeel. Sound and well put together, if not a show-stopper. Cask (gravity dispense) at Chelmsford Winter Beer Festival 2005.
