Commercial Description:
Cask; Regular. Also available bottle conditioned.
A classic style stout with a wonderful smokey tang produced by a good amount of roast barley. We don't usually keep a stout on during the summer, but the demand remains high so you stout lovers may be lucky to find this one about.
Ingredients: Maris Otter pale malt, crystal malt, chocolate malt. Roasted barley. Rolled oats. Challenger and Goldings hops.

25th March 2008. Very smooth porter. Lightly sour and lightly toasted. Not bitter.

Gravity cask at the Battersea Beer Festival, 7th Feb 2008. Looks and smells great - very dark brown, almost black with a toffee and coffee nose. Mainly tastes of roasted malt and milk chocolate with an iron note (see their Drop of Nelson’s Blood). Palate is a bit flat and a touch too light for my liking, so it doesn’t quite fulfil the promise of the excellent aroma.

18th camra beer festival. "don’t drink with raw liver!" it says in my tasting notes. yes, it does have a slight iron note to it. and no, i’m have not completely lost it :-). otherwise sweet toffe notes and coffe in smell but very short mouthfeel. not too bad.

A Mes rate: Gravicask at Battersea Beer Festival.
Murky black brown with a thin tan rim. Sweet berry fruit with some smoky malt and coffee. Pretty standard really. Really nice very dry roasty / toasty finish. A little thin in the mouth but not bad on the whole.

Cask handpull at The Wenlock Arms, London. Black, lasting tan creamy head. Creamy choccy porter, moderate coffee. Nice smokey choc aroma, some juicyness in mouth. Bitter choc finish. Really good 4.1% choccy porter, bitterness on end is quite intense. Lovely lacing in glass.

Cask conditioned, gravity dispense at St Albans BF ’06. Dark brown with fluffy beige head. Not much up the nose for me. Smooth, dry chalky palate and roasty malt flavours abound. Alright.

Cask@Chelmsford Beer Festival. Quite light and roasty, with a slightly dusty mouthfeel. Some soft roasty bitterness in the finish.

Cask conditioned - gravity dispense - Chelmsford BF. A very dar brown coloured porter with a roasty, smoky aroma. The taste is dry and roasty. Mlty and smoky and a little bit of fish oil. A proper good porter.
