Commercial Description:
Dunkel Weizen is a dark wheat beer brewed in the winter months. It has many of the same characteristics as the Hefe Weizen, yet darker in body and more full in flavors. FBC Dunkel Weizen has pronounced banana and clove flavors with a nutty malt flavor.

GABF sample bottle. Poured a deep brown color with some caramel highlights around the edges and a thin off-white head that faded to a ring. Aroma of wheat with some banana and clove and a soft phenol/band-aid character with a bit of caramel. Smooth, slightly sweet entry leads into a nice crispy wheatiness with some soft spices and a hint of banana fruitiness. Finishes with a bit of an awkward off flavor. Low carbonation, smooth, but a bit thin on the palate.

GABF Sample bottle. Dark brick colored brew with a well lasting, creamy head. Fairly intricate and vibrant nose shows some chocolate, banana peel, vanilla and clove. Nose is great but flavor is lacking typical dunkel weiss elements and is pretty oxidized & simple, with berry & cardboard notes. Doesn’t finish well either.
