Canned. Pours an opaque brownish black with a ruby highlight or two. Small, tight whitish head. Aroma is malty with a hint of coffee. Flavor is roasted malt, sweet with a definite alcohol presence. Very thin bodied. Decent overall, but not great.

Beer #10 in the line-up at The International Night Of Swill. Dark reddish brown colour, looks like a glass of of Dr. Pepper. Aroma is a little stale and metallic, but has some dark sugary malt notes that are OK. Flavour is malty and metallic as well, with a bit of coffee, and a sour finish. Very middle of the road. The Holsten Festbock is better.

(Canned) Very dark reddish brown color with a small, very quickly fading head. Caramely, toffeeish, malty and wineous, but not alcoholic aroma. Very bitter and dry, slightly ashy and smoky flavor initially, but it fades quickly into smooth, sweetish maltiness. There’s not much action left in the finish or aftertaste. Alcohol is very well hidden. Medium to full-bodied, quite bitter palate with smooth carbonation. Quite interesting and drinkable brew.

I found the can did lend a metallic taste with a bitter sweet taste, for the high alcohol content is hard to distinguish. Not bad, next.

500ml can. Poured deep brown with red and purplish hues. Tan head flared up quite a bit then fizzled down to a thin layer of surface bubbles, then totally vanished. Aroma of sweet dark malts. Flavourwise, there’s more dark malts, roasted malt, caramel with a bitter bite to it. Aftertaste consists of coffee and black liqourice.

Not special or spectacular. But above average thick malt and a bittersweet palate. Pours nice enough as well. I am not a fan of the metal taste.

Has a nice rich dark colour, not what I’d consider ’amber’. Crisp slightly bitter taste, with pleasent after-taste. Head was no existant giving it a Coca Cola-ish appearance. A nice beer to have on the porch on a warm day.

500 ml can. Dark brown colour with a thick beige head that fades back to lace. Very malty aroma, brown sugar, coffee, roasted malt, and dates. Perhaps a trace of spiciness as well. Flavour is also very malty showing roastiness and demerara sugar. There is no bitterness at all in this one and the alcohol is well-concealed. As the beer warms, more coffee aroma comes out. A surprisingly good brew.
