Aroma is sweet malt, with apple and a hint of hops. Flavor is sweet as well, in a kind of candy-ish way, with apple undertones and a nutty finish. Not too exciting, but has just enough uniqueness to keep from being completely interchangeable with dozens of other generic bitters, although it does get cloying after a while. Sweetish and light bodied, fairly soft. Dusty with soft papery malt and shampoo. Salty finish with some resiny bitterness. A straightforward, rather aromatic ale with a bit of character of it’s own. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Apr 28, 2007 Appearance is of brown tea with a nice foamy head. Aroma is super! Malted barley dominates. Peat is underneath adding an interesting twist. Mouth feel is thin. Flavor is malty and not as bitter as expected. However, the hops do add a nice little bite. This would make a nice beer to drink in a pub. thegreenrooster (1846), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 26, 2007 Pour is a amber with a tan head. Aroma is caramel malts with some molasses. Flavor is a bit earthy and smoky. Some caramel malts with a nice mellow hoppyness that comes out after the swallow. A decent beer and available at most beer stores. jrob21 (1275), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Apr 19, 2007 Not sure if I agree with the style here. Reminded me more of a brown. It was at least as exciting as a brown. I need to give UK ales a break for a little while since I have been so nonplussed with them lately. This one is no excpetion. A very thin, easy to drink beer. Slight crystal sugar and apple aromas and tastes. Other than that not a lot happening. TheGrandMaster (1872), Auckland, New Zealand
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Apr 3, 2007 Bottle, pours a clear copper with a frothy off-white head. Caramal malt aroma with a lighter grassy hoppiness. A light and reasonably smooth palate, just a light bit of molasses0like malt flavours. The finish becomes more bitter, but also watery and has a ’dirty’ bite at the end. M0RHI (1067), Luxembourg, Luxembourg
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Apr 1, 2007 Bottle. Coppery colour with a thin-ish white head. Maltiness and caramel initially in the nose, but some bitter grassy hops below. Mouth is more woodlike with some bitterness from the hops towards the end. It finishes dry, bitter and quite clean. Pretty standard.
