| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Mar 22, 2007 Bright red/gold incolour with thin white head. Any aroma there is, is sweet and malty. Light malty flavour and any hop bitterness is overpowered by the malt. Is very thin.
If this is the national beer of Wales then I would rather have a Speights!!!! jbrus (4872), Delft, Netherlands
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Mar 21, 2007 Bottled. Aroma is nice, light woody, some caramel, herbal/grassy. Light brown color, beige head, good lace. Butterscotch, caramel and herbal starting flavor but immediately disappears, gets neutral and thin. A real session ale you can easily drink a few pints of but I’m not impressed. Aquilo (267), California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 19, 2007 This had a long hard journey from Wales to Sebastopol, CA. I thought the label looked cool, and I thought, hey, I’ll give it a try. But it has a rather low score, so I’m a little worried now. First of all, I love the color. It is red-brown with an off-white head. Smells of green apples and wet grass. The flavor disappoints a bit. It is rather thin, with sweet malts, and a strange sour/bitter taste as it goes down. It has a pleasant mouthfeel, however. I expect that this tastes better in its country of origin. slimchill (780), Austin, Texas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 16, 2007 WFM sample. Nose is distinctively scotch-like, alcohol and smoky malts. I can’t read my notes but they say 14 overall. bhensonb (4289), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 9, 2007 Medium malty aroma, with, yes, an apple component. Would I have known without reading the commercial description? Who knows. But it’s there. Dark amber color with a head that doesn’t stick. Starts medium thin with an apple peel / malt mix. Gets thinner. A rather clean taste. The malt fades, and some bitter is for the finish. But it’s not all that hoppy. I grew up with water that had hydrogen sulpide. There’s a hint of that. (refer to the C.D.) Sharp, crisp, yes. A bit watery though. Really refreshing. Retro. Celtic. Doppelganger (1353), Dry County, Arkansas, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Mar 7, 2007 Bottle. Amber with a steady cream skim of bubbles, lingering in nice lacy rings. Grassy, earthy aroma. Not generous, but fresh and pleasant. Palate is oddly watery. Flavor is hard to grasp. Sort of a vague sweetness, followed by an odd lemony medicinal note. An ale that seems so neutral that the flavors it does have just feel odd and embarrassed to be there at all. cgarvieuk (4184), Edinburgh, Scotland
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 7/20 | Mar 6, 2007 A ruby coloured ale, with a depp malt fruit with a slight sweet syrupiness in the flavour. shoestring (187), larkhall, Scotland
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 4, 2007 Tight 1/2 inch head. Not much aroma about it. Maybe overchille this one a bit! ? I agree with the others when they say that it seems a bit weak in the mouth . Don’t get me wrong I liked it, but not very ’full’ in the mouth - just not much there and left nothing in the mouth when swallowed. As it gently warmed in the hand it improved in the palate,. Yes I would take this again, but maybe a couple of bottles would be needed to appreciate it better (as I took it after Cairngorms Trade Winds and it maybe overpowered this.
