| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Apr 12, 2006 500ml bottle. Faint aroma, what is there is pleasant enough, though, with some toasty biscuit malt accents and background notes of cedar and leafy herbs. Clear light-medium copper color with a slight, fine head. Flavor profile features some floral sweetness up front, almost like heather, and then a blend of lightly grainy, toasty malts and mildly bitter hops carries through to the dry finish, which also has late hints of berryish fruitiness. Palate is a bit on the weak side, watery and thin with a light amount of effervescence and a light-medium body. It had been a long time since I last had this, unfortunately it was not quite as tasty as I had remembered. Still mildly interesting, nonetheless. ChillCoat (1029), Concord, California, USA
| 1.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 1/10 | 1/5 | 1/20 | Apr 2, 2006 Bottled. Pours a murky amberish color with a white head. Sharp fruit aromas with brown sugar and malt notes. The flavor is a veritable train wreck with alcohol, grain, cereal, diacetyl, acetone and gasoline all colliding. | 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Apr 1, 2006 Partially blind rating (I knew the sample was either Twisted Thistle or Double Dragon, but not which one, nor had I had either one before, nor did I know exactly what style they were, just hoppy British ales).
Head is initially small, frothy, white, mostly diminishing.
Body is clear medium amber.
Aroma is lightly malty (grain, cereal), trace hoppy (flowers), with notes of diacetyl, cardboard, and DMS.
Flavor is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter, husky.
Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.
Bloody ’orrible, this is. luckygirl (1221), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 7/20 | Apr 1, 2006 Pours a clear, medium amber color with a small, frothy white, mostlyand quickly diminishing head. The aroma is a bit odd: Malty with heavy notes of deeply toasted/slightly husky grain, cookie and caramel; Miscellaneous, moderately weighty notes of plumeria flower and green apple. Light notes of buttery diacetyl and corny DMS. The flavor is moderately bittersweet, lightly acidic with a moderately acidic, lightly bittersweet finish. Plenty of fake-buttered popcorn in the aftertaste. Not so good! The body is light, the texture is watery and the carbonation is lively. PorterPounder (3138), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 25, 2006 Whole Foods, Sarasota, Fl., 500 ml bottle. Light brown murky pour, very slight white head. Fresh lake water aroma, a hint of mint, that’s about it. Excellent decent subtle bitterness with hints of mint, nuts, and apples that only improves upon warming. Most definitely session material. Mouthfeel is slightly sticky. Good, solid bitter, would expect nothing less from the folks that brought us Thames Welsh ESB. . trokini (1027), San Diego, California, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 20, 2006 A thick bitter. Pours cloudy brown with no head. Lots of apple and malt in the aroma, with some earthiness. The taste is milder than most English bitters. The apple bite comes through, but the malt sweetens it. Good, not great. duff (5475), Surrey, Greater London, England
| 1.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 1/5 | 5/20 | Mar 17, 2006 Bottle. Absolutely horrible. Watery, stale, some boiled vegetables. Unbelievably bad. I can’t write anything else about it. Green apples in the finish. oldrtybastrd (1801), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA
