Black color, light brown small creamy head, very nice lace. Light sweet, light sour, dough, yeast, bitter finish, coffeebeans. Thin and a long lasting dry finish. Very typical combination of flavors which I never encountered before and hope I never will again. johndoughty (2165), cheslyn hay, West Midlands, England

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | May 11, 2005 I wasn’t expecting a lot from this beer, but I have to say i was pleasantly surprised. Its an intriguing, if rather odd, brew hovering in the grey area between a mild, a stout and an old ale. And, like most low strength pasteurised beers, it can’t entirely shrug off those characteristic taints of wet carboard and metal, but it has enough going on to limit their impact. It’s very dark in colour, almost black, with a ruby tinge. No creamy head in the bottled version. The aroma is a bit vinous and woody, with chocolate malt in the background. Lots of roast chocolate malt in the flavour, with a sort of sweet and sour thing going on - dry malt and jammy fruit combined. Becomes drier, with distinct acidity on the finish and a slightly astringent aftertaste. The overall impression is a bit wrinkly and dried out (sorry, slipping into SilkTork’s old lady analogies) but, in the end, I kind of liked it. 500ml pasteurised bottle from Brecon Welsh Food Store (I forget the name of it).

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Oct 13, 2004 Bottled. Aroma reminds me a bit of cointreau but in a darker chocolate malt kind of way. The colour is almost black and thankfully the head is nothing like that which cream flow dispense would provide as per the blurb. Taste is on the thin side; again there is a sort of orange taste but also some chocolate and coal. A bit odd really! Spiesy (2333), Global Citizen, Greater London, England
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 20, 2004 Bottled. Dark brown with a soft light-brown head. Rich dark chocolate malt aroma, with blood plums and prunes. Deep, rich and dense flavour. A very generous mild that punches well above it’s wait. RichardGretton (3153), Leicestershire, England
