Slowly fading. Wonderful sweet and sour nose with musty wood tones, cherry, malt, tart plums, sugar and lactic acid. First taste is almost lacking any sourness that you notice on the nose... but it comes and gains more power as time passes. Very nice wood notes come after the initial sweet malt, sugar and introductory sourness. Wood gets lightly tannic as it works its way through. Kept in check by cherries, dark fruit compote and sugar syrup. Lactic notes show up with the wood and grow stronger, but are always held back by the overall sweetness. Touch of chocolate and very low bitterness on the end. Upfront it feels sticky but then really thins out to a medium light mouthfeel. It seems to want to be even thinner but the wood notes fill it out. Nice beer with some great accents, but it feels a bit too restrained. MoritzF (4856), Bochum, Germany Mar 1, 2009 (25cl bottle) Almost clear, mahogany colour with a beige medium-sized foamy head. Moderately sour and roasted malty aroma with caramel, wood and slightly fruity notes of redcurrant. Sour and slightly sweet flavour, light to medium bodied with a smooth carbonation. Slightly toasted malty taste with woody and delicate lactic notes. Mildly acidic and subtle fruity finish (01.III.09).
