Commercial Description:
Cask; Occasional. Also Bottle Conditioned.
Beautifully balanced brew. This black nectar has stunning red highlights as is is raised to drink. An initial malty aroma is finely complemented by a roasted and complex scent. The first sip suggests a mild but it is a beer with a satisfying hop bite.

Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Very dark brown. Faint malt aroma. Chocolate malt taste. A little earthy sourness with a gentle dry finish. Good pint.

Gravity, Merton Beer Festival. Very dark brown, almost opaque, fine layer of off-white head. Rustic earthy bread aroma, lightly roasty, light caramel. Simple, but attractive. Earthy bread flavor, just a little smoke, some copper penny pinging around in the background, but in this case it’s a nice thing. Light body, but not thin. A solid mild, not a shocker, but hearty and satisfying.

Cask at Merton Summer Beer Festival 07-07-07. Poured very dark brown without much of a head, great smokey aroma which then followed through into the mouth. This was a jolly good Mild that tasted nice malty and ’roasty smokey’ but for some reason it never quite lived up to expectations.
