Poured a dark brown color with red edges and a small sized off white head. Aromas of raisins, chocolate, and some roastiness. Tastes of dark fruits, citrus, and spices. Some alcohol in the finish, but overall well hidden. kmweaver (2482), Sebastopol, California, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Oct 17, 2008 Draft @ FiftyFifty. Pours a dark, clear cherry-cola color; light tan head with fine-bubbled lacing. Medicinal, oily raisins and dried dark fruits in the aroma; overly sweet, medicinal, and sticky; a nose full of raisins. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: lots of raisins, dried dark fruits, and a pervasively awful burnt sugar / paint thinner / acetone note; no me gusta; astringent and burnt, and very difficult to drink much of this; didn’t finish my sample. Medium finish: cola, dried dark fruits, and lingering burnt sugar. Lives up to its name. wetherel (1641), Encinitas, California, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 8, 2008 Tap Sample @ The Brewpub. Pours ruby brown with a bright white ring. Nose is sweet. Taste is sweet a bit hotter than I’d like and overall its a nice experience but far to big a beer for its own britches. SamGamgee (1464), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 10/20 | Aug 17, 2008 On tap at the brewpub. Super dark brown with a creamy beige head. Aroma of licorice a sweet dried fruit. The flavor is sweet and alcoholic with strong licorice and herbal spice. Full bodied and a little sticky. This is just a weird beer. Super herbal and licorice flavored. When I saw this on the menu I got pretty psyched, but just couldn’t get into it. Some more subtlety, and I could see this being a nice strong dark ale, but its just too much.
