bulletrain76 (531), Santa Cruz, California, USA Aug 17, 2008 On tap at the brewery. Black with a fine tan head. Lots of chocolate and hops in the aroma. Sweet and roasty with caramel and some cocoa, balanced nicely with pretty ample piney hops. Medium bodied, with a creamy texture. A tasty roasty and hoppy porter, not unlike a hoppy foreign stout. Pretty bitter and hoppy, but the sweetness and lack of roasted astringency save the flavors from clashing. stchloe (96), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 29, 2008 Sweet, chocolaty, and with the right amount of hops to balance it out. One of my new favorite porters. And seriously one of the best named beers. hotstuff (3038), Indiana, USA Feb 2, 2008 Draft at Oregon Brewers Festival, Portland, OR. Tan head that was mostly lasting, patchy lacing, no visible carbonation, opaque, and a dark brown hue. Nose was malty, chocolate notes, roasty, and hops. Flavor was malty, roasty, some molasses, rich, and hoppy. Smooth mouthfeel and medium. Very quaffable, easy to drink and worthy of a try. grant (753), Martinez, California, USA Aug 25, 2007 Dark brown, little head. Medium roast coffee augmented with some milk chocolate. Very, very sweet, coconut-laden flavor. Tiny hints of sourish roasted malt. Nicely complimentary bitterness. A bit thick and syrupy. Seems pretty unfinished and worty. This would actually be pretty decent if it were attenuated properly, but as it was it was too raw and treacly. DYCSoccer17 (2009), Davis, California, USA Aug 25, 2007 4 ounce sample on tap at the brewpub. Burnt with some smoked black patent malts present in the initial aroma. Not overpowering, though. There are also some lightly sweet chocolate aromas as well. I think I smell some Cascade hops, too. Moderately opaque mahogany body present with a small tan head. Smooth, creamy, coffee-like flavors to start, with a little sweetness in the middle. Nicely hopped finish. Drinkable and good, although it was a little underattenuated.
