Cask at the Eastbourne Beer Festival, 9th Oct 2008. Pitch black appearance with a little cream head. Soft medicinal herb and berry notes on the nose lead you onward to a an intense coffee start to the sip but then the flavour broadens out to include more berry flavours and roasted notes. A very interesting and challenging porter with lots of fun flavours.

A Sim rate (cask at Hove BF): Red wine and sweetness in the aroma, but not nearly enough to warrant a nice porter. Dark colour, but not quite opaque. Biscuity, bitter malt flavour that’s so so bitter in the finish. Such a watery palate. It’s such a letdown. I got a half pint of this and a taster of the Bottlewreck porter. I should’ve done it the other way ’round. Didn’t even finish this beer.

[639-20070919] Cask @ First In Last Out (Hastings, ES). Malty coffee roast aroma. Clear, dark brown red body with a small long-lasting foamy white head. Coffee malt flavour. Medium-full body is smooth. Interesting porter.

FILO, Hastings Soft, mildly creamy, with an embracing blanket of ducks down. Flavoursome without weight or aggression. Hints of coffee, chocolate and roast, as expected from a dark beer. Soft hopping bitterness. Everything is here, but in a restrained manner - and that is well suited to the soft and comforting mouthfeel. Soft, jammy raspberry fruit near the finish, and jelly in the swallow. Charming.

Cask conditioned @ FILO, Hastings. Dark berries and malt. Fruity acidity goes well with the light roasty flavours.

Cask@The Sussex Beer festival, Hove. Quite sweet, with notable caramel/toffee characters. Very subtle roasted characters, very soft, vanishing flavours. This tasted like a mild to me.

Cask handpull at First In Last Out in Hastings. Dark porter with burnt caramel and malt with a dry hoppy finish. Here with Phil_l

Cask Conditioned at The First In Last Out, Hastings. Dark still with thin tan head. Peaty dark roasted malt beer, fairly flat but with a nutty juiciness. Coffee husk finish.
