This dry stout features a roasty coffee-like bitterness and a clean well balanced palate. A gentle hop bitterness is present. Fantastic with a meal or by itself.

Dark, almost opaque, with a smoky flavor it goes down smooth. A growler of this goes exceptionally well with fresh chocolate chip cookies!

Growler. Pours dark brown with a ruby red tint and a tan head. Smells of coffee, dark chocolate, some pepper, caramel, hints of spiciness. Tastes of burnt malt, lots of toffee, hints of molasses, lots of sweet malt, sugar, touches of citrus. Mouthfeel is ouly with a finish that is sweet and lasting with a touch of pepper. Very nice!

Draft. Deep brown when held up to the window. Taste of coffee, chocolate and roasted malt. A little balancing hop bitterness adds to the sweetness of the malts. Medium body. A very good session stout, not really dry.

Tap. Very impressing for a low alcohol beer. Well brewed stout with both coffee and chocolate notes. Nice creamy too.

Has a very dark brown color and a smoked/roasted malt smell. Taste is smooth smoked, malted and finishes with little bitterness. Overall a pretty good smoked stout.

Has a good roasted smoked flavor. Black as night appearance with a mocha colored head that sticks around for quite a while. Smokiness presents itself in the flavor as well. Goes down very smooth - had a pint of this after the sampler. Best of my visit to Firehouse.

Last stop of the return trip during ABA Beer Tour ’07. Sampled on draught at the brewpub restaurant in downtown Rapid City, South Dakota. Pours an opaque dark brown brew with a light tan head that slowly dissolves and leaves behind a spotty lacing. Aroma of toasted dark malt, rich coffee, a touch of coffee and plenty of earthy and flowery hops. Taste is full bodied with a slight carbonation added with flavors of dark coffee, and bittersweet Bakers cooking chocolate. Finish is creamy, with a dry bitter aftertaste. A solid dark and dry stout.

Draught from the brewpub poured into sampler - Pours dark red amber; Roasted coffee, espresso, and maybe some hops to the nose; Roasted malt, coffee, and very light hops on the initial taste; Roast on the backtaste; Creamy medium palate; A decent dry stout! Nice! My favorite of the 4 I had.
