Wulfstan (443), California, USA Jun 13, 2008 This was surprisingly good and surpsiginly English in overall character. It’s copper with a medium, light tan head, steadily shrinking to a thin, permanent top with only weak hints of lace. The aroma is flowery and a bit earthy with prominent breadcrust, as well as hints of caramel and grapefruit. The taste is mild caramelly malt, bread, mild lightly grapefruity citrus, hints of pine, leaves, and earth, and a light fruitiness. It’s a bit mild and some of the specific flavours are not my real preference, being a little more grapefruity than I ideally prefer. However, it has definite English qualities as well and is well balanced in flavours and in sweetness-bitterness, with both lasting. It also goes well with food and is easy to drink.

Aroma - Malty, with notes of grain and caramel, earthy and herbal hop character
Appearance - Clear amber with a medium off white head that lasts well, and some good lace
Flavor - Dark caramel and dark fruit sweetness, and a late appearing soft indistinct bitterness
Palate - Medium body and carbonation, smooth, slightly sweet palate
Overall - A solid pale ale, sessionable, although perhaps slightly sweet douglas88 (743), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Aug 30, 2008 Bottle drank at the Bayou. Pours a clear copper color with a medium off-white head. The aroma is mostly subdued hops, quite light but nice. The flavor was full of smooth citrus hops, grapefruit and floral flavors. A strong bit of caramel malt balances it out. A touch of fruit, and no notice of barrel aging except perhaps in the mellowness of this brew. Nice though, and I could drink many of these. Reid (991), Salem, Oregon, USA Aug 23, 2008 Average looking amber coloured beer, small off white head.
Lovelly aromas though, spicy,malty, fruity..floral. and woody.gorgeous.
Mainlly malty ..semi sweet flavours, English leafy hop in the back and after taste, slightly toasty.
Kinda thin on the palte..though thats not really a bad thing in this weather.
Overall a nice English style plae ale..could be a good session if it lost 1% of its alcohol. troopie (484), USA Aug 17, 2008 Draught. Poured red amber with thin head. Spicy aroma, with much floral. Malty flavour, with a bit of flatness also toast notes. Balanced finish.
