Commercial Description:
Cask: Special.
This multi award winning West Coast brewer specialises in brewing American pale ales using its patented Firestone union oak barrel fermentation system. This West Coast-style pale ale is characterised by the use of American-grown hops, with their herbal, citrus-like aroma and flavour. The bright and fruity hop aroma is balanced by an elegant malt texture, with hints of toffee and toasted malt. Hops used: Cascade, Centennial, Chinook, American Fuggles

Full pint of this Wetherspoon festival ale at The Playfair, Lloyds no.1 Bar, in Edinburgh. Hazy amber with a reddish tint. Malt-fruity accented smell. Moderate degrees of late oranges in the mouth continuing into a rounded aftertaste of hop bitterness. Tame impression. Rather disappointing, I would say [14.11.2008].

Cask in the cross keys and the new crown. Aroma is sulphury earthyness, theres a decent amount of hops in here, but the mineral character of marstons has managed to ruin it. Taste is actually on the sweetside. No doubt an excellent beer until they decided to brew it at marstons and make it rubbish.

From cask at Crystal Palace. Pours clear and golden orange with a small off-white head. Light fruity hops aroma. Slight metallic flavoured yet also with a light sweetness to a solid fruity hoppy base flavour. Subdued malt base. Ends bitter, dry and yet als fruity hoppy.

Cask at Crosse Keys JDW. Gold, copper colour, hoppy, but English hoppy aroma, not as big as I expected. Even slightly watery in mouth, bit of ginger hop spice on finish, bit dull really. Not the American Pale Ale, I was really anticipating and looking forward to.

Cask at The Penny Black, JDW, Bicester, Oxon Nov 2008. Pours light amber with a slim tight white creamy head. Some peach and apricot on the nose, light fruitiness in the mouth with an edgey but not harsh bitterness running through it. Light caramel also shows at the end, its nice but served a little too warm.

Cask - ’Spoons, Canterbury. 1/2 pint glass. A Golden amber colour with a creamy white head. Rather a citric nose with spicy hop notes. Sweet yet tangy flavour with a dominant bitter profile. Average lemony bitter finish. Smooth, subtle and refreshing, but a touch too indecisive in itself.

Cask at ’Spoons, Milton Keynes, in the Wetherspoons Festival ’08. Bright copper. Slight hop aroma. Pleasant enough fruit in the taste, a bit of metal, slight bitterness. Ordinary, really.

Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Gold to amber with white head. After the evening we had had around Leamington Spa trying to find decent pubs and beer, I have to say that this stood out like a beacon above the dross. Lightly malted with hints of spicy, lemony hops, sweetish but not overbearing. Really quite subtle and tangy. Pretty decent.
