Commercial Description:
Batch 1000 is a special limited release that commemorates the brewing of our one-thousandth batch at our brewery in Paso Robles on California’s Central Coast. While similar in style and flavor to our flagship Double Barrel Ale, Batch 1000 boasts the added distinction of being unfiltered, bottle conditioned and entirely fermented in new American oak barrels. The result is a beer that stands alone in quality and character. Ten years ago, when we brewed our first batch of Double Barrel Ale, we revived the lost art of barrel fermentation. Our inspiration was the classic Burton Union brewing method that was once responsible for England’s finest ales. Over time, this method was abandoned by most brewers because of the considerable expense and labor when compared to modern stainless steel brewing. Today, we remain the only American brewery to ferment beer in a union of oak barrels. Batch 1000 is ultimately a beer born of tradition and inspired by innovation. It is a unique piece of brewing art composed of the finest all-natural ingredients, one that should be consumed in its youth, at its freshest. Only 500 cases were produced.

Bottle... Clear, textbook amber ale with a mid-sized, fluffy, white head. Good retention. Nice aromas of toffee, cookie, biscuit and black tea with a hint of oak. Medium-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and tingly carbonation. Very well-balanced. Tastes mainly of unsweetened black tea with a smidgen of toffee malt. Short, crisp, clean finish.

Lucky to get a bottle of this. Poured a dark amber with fat white head and decent lacing. Nose of caramel malts and some bitter hops. Rich and nice mouthfeel, and well balanced flavors with a hint of oak in the somewhat dry and bitter finish.

Bottle from the Beer Fest in Davis, CA. Pours an amber color with a medium-sized head. Sweet malty flavor with just a hint of bitterness. Like many others have said, its smooth and a very easy to drink.

On tap at Toronado. This dark brown ale has a sweet malty flavor with oak notes and a nice hoppy finish. Drinkable, but not remarkable.

Rich and bready palate with a nice herbal note. Lots of oak and caramel with some vanilla, nuts and toffee. Full and rich mouthfeel.

I guess I am used to more American styles now. It tastes a bit dirty. A lot of earthyness and strange mouthfeel. Flavor is balanced of malts with a hint of mild bitterness. A bit light.
