Commercial Description:
Batch 1000 is a special limited release that commemorates the brewing of our one-thousandth batch at our brewery in Paso Robles on California’s Central Coast. While similar in style and flavor to our flagship Double Barrel Ale, Batch 1000 boasts the added distinction of being unfiltered, bottle conditioned and entirely fermented in new American oak barrels. The result is a beer that stands alone in quality and character. Ten years ago, when we brewed our first batch of Double Barrel Ale, we revived the lost art of barrel fermentation. Our inspiration was the classic Burton Union brewing method that was once responsible for England’s finest ales. Over time, this method was abandoned by most brewers because of the considerable expense and labor when compared to modern stainless steel brewing. Today, we remain the only American brewery to ferment beer in a union of oak barrels. Batch 1000 is ultimately a beer born of tradition and inspired by innovation. It is a unique piece of brewing art composed of the finest all-natural ingredients, one that should be consumed in its youth, at its freshest. Only 500 cases were produced.

Amber with lots of particulates. Aroma of oak, roasty malts, caramel, dried fruit and brandy. Tastes includes rich roasty malts, grains, earth, and an overall malty and sweet balance. Not big but seemingly flawless for a smooth, easy brew.

Tasted at Logan’s house with Logan and deftim13. Bottle from Tim I think. Thanks! Also I think a rare bottle. Light amber color. Lots of orange floaties. Oaky aroma. Very well aged and mellowed. Buttery vanilla aroma. Super easy to drink. Leans a little too mellow.

On tap @ Cass St San Diego. Nice looking amber colored beer. No taste what soever. Very very slight bitterness. Slight smokiness. Easy drinking and not offensive at all but really lacking any flavor profile at all

A mid-sized creamy beige head is lowly and partially receding. The body is lightly hazed and obviously unfiltered and bottle conditioned, a pretty glowing amber with earthy oranges. The nose is softly oaky, a wooden note that overlaps a warming hoppiness with grass and floral characteristics. Mild roast blends with toffee and toasted grain. The aroma is soft, incredibly welcoming and earthy while still retaining a fresh aspect. The flavor is filled with oak and light carameland hints of sherried oxidation notes. The blend is sublime. Bitterness is mild, astringency nil. Sweetness is medium and balance and drinkability are top notch. English hops have done a remarkable job preserving this ale. Floral notes flutter in and out and create a soft but stark backdrop that resembles a backing wall of flowerbed, soily earthiness included. The finish is loaded with toffee, medium bitterness and heavy toasted malt. Mildly drying on the palate and on the way down, this medium bodied beer is well-bubbled and smooth. A pleasurable experience. Firestone is great.

Thanks Boboski. Poured an almost glowing copper orange color. Aroma is malt dominant, however there is a hop component that is coming through. There is an aroma that reminds me of Carr’s Water Crackers, I know, odd. Flavor is a bit mellow, almost delicate. The malt is there with a slight hop finish. Nice bottle.

Bottle. There does not appear to be any designation of the bottle to indicate that this was "Batch 1000" except that "1000" was handwritten on the top of the label and the giver suggested it was this batch. Pours a brown leaning amber with a thck, but quickly disappating head. Nose is wood and malt. Flavor continues with wood/oak flavors as well as dried cherry or raisins and more malts. Minimal hoping as the profile continues leaving you with the sensation that you have been sucking on that beer soaked wood. It is an interesting set of flavors, although the mouthfeel is thin. Maybe a dilluted port. Not sure if I would buy this but If offered I would try again. Thanks to Secret Santa(Winter) for the bottle.
