Aroma is heavy on oak, with caramel, and a bit of chocolate. Body is brown, no real head on it. Taste is much more vanilla then it was in the original, little hop background, with a bunch of caramel. Not all barrel aged beers have to be 10%. GG (1682), NorCal, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 6, 2006 Thanks to Ed from Ledger’s for this one. This was a medium-bodied pale ale with a caramel nose and a dark copper/bronze pour with a small head. Vanilla, butterscotch (diacytal?), tannins and oak are present due to the aging in oak barrels. Hopes in the flavor were citrusy. Very dry in the finish with some astringency. A very good sipping ale. luvcasks (178), USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 5, 2006 Aroma:faintly malty with some grassy and floral notes. as the beer warms some vanilla in the nose
Appearance: slightly cloudy light amber, pours with a thin head which dissipates fairly quickly
Flavor: prickle of carbonation followed by malty, woody notes finishing with a nice hop flavor. As teh beer warms oak and caramel flavors come thru
Palate: Medium to light body, cabonation seems high for this style, slight fruity, bready and hop flavors show thru.
Overall: Another very good English-Style beer. Again comes closest to being able to bottle a cask-conditioned beer. I thank Firestone-Walker for producing these wonderful session beers in the midst of high-alcohol and over-hopped beers. For a special release, I am not too enthused since it does not stand out too much from the regular batch. I definitely enjoyed being able to taste the beer so young and notice it was lighter on the tongue than the regular beer. I am rating it lower since it does not differentiate itself from the regular version davidflores99 (225), Long Beach, California, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 30, 2006 While this beer wasn’t too special and different from the regular double barrel, it wasn’t too bad I must say. Some of the flavors did come out a bit more. I liked it, it wasn’t anything too special, but good. heemer77 (4312), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 19, 2006 Updated: Jan 20, 2006Recieved in a trade. Thanks, Ernie. I was fairly impressed with this beer. This poured with a medium orange body. The aroma was vanilla, oak and sweet caramel. The taste had oak and dry toffee. As it warmed, it gained a more bourbon like character. Smooth. elnadeau (786), Laguna Niguel, California, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 17, 2006 I really don’t understand the initiative to take a very mild flavored amber and add some more subtle flavors that are so far in the background they may as well be ghosts. This beer was just not the right candidate to put this kind of effort into the production, let alone come up with a special box for it; like serving a McDonalds hamburger on a silver plate. | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 14, 2006 Well, this was a disappointment. For Batch #1000, this wasn’t much more than an amber ale. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great. After alll though, it came in a specialty box. It was a better-than-average amber ale. Oh well. Not a terribly big beer mustangjoe (172), redondo beach, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 10, 2006 Dark copper colored pour with a small white head. The oak is there in the aroma, with vanilla and malts coming through as well. At first taste, the sweet maltiness comes through, but once the oak kicks in, it takes over. Glad I got to try the special batch, but the regular DBA, without the oak, for me is much more enjoyable.
